An indie shop that is unique in a nice way

A friendly compact shop that, while not perfect, certainly left me feeling relaxed and smiley.

R18 DVDs were priced at £20-25 but with no obvious sign of deals.

Lush Lingerie is the first licensed sex shop in the district! Achieved in November 2005 by two females! The shop is situated by the main bus stop.

Wooden floors and beech slatboards give the shop a modern look. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Loads of stock ranging from adult toys, R18 DVD's, novelties, erotic books and magazines to lingerie, clubwear and fancy dress! Stock is very competitive with DVD's ranging from £20 - £40.

The shop has now changed hands and now Mr Wright doesn't own it anymore.

Although the shop advertises 8pm closing, on a Saturday night it closed up at 7:45pm. I arrived just as the shop was closing.  I couldn't even get a bottle of poppers and put the money in the till the next day!

Patrice Adult Store in Diamond Street Aberdeen has now a full sex shop licence after Aberdeen City Council decided to grant the application under delegated powers, which means the application did not even require to come before the Licensing Committee.

Owner Patrick Wight said, It's great news for the north east, now there's more choice for people of all genders to explore their sexuality. All credit must go to the council, they have had their critics of late but they are a modern thinking local authority and this decision proves it.'

A north-east entertainer has revealed plans to open a sex shop in Aberdeen.

Patrick Wight, who goes by the stage name Patrice, has applied for a licence to run the adult store in Diamond Street in the city centre.

The comedian said he intended to sell similar products to those of the high-street chain, Ann Summers, until Aberdeen City Council's licensing committee decides on his application for a sex shop licence in November. If the sex shop licence is granted the business will be open from 10.30am to 9pm seven days a week.

I have been all over the world, and this shop is the WORST sex shop I have ever seen. The staff don't smile and don't seem to give a toss (excuse the pun) about customer service.

This is the first licensed sex shop in Aberdeen, and I must say, it is a very impressive business. The shop is discretely located in the busy George street area of Aberdeen, and is bright and clean. The staff are extremely helpful and the range of items on sale is large and impressive. Here one can legally buy R18 videos and DVDs, first generation, not copies. The prices are very reasonable and you can get very good deals. All videos and DVDs are exchangeable. New titles are regularly updated. I certainly recommend QT to anyone looking for first class adult material.

The Private Shop is on the outskirts of the town centre and staffed when I went in there by a lady, the manager wasn't there at the time. There's a whole room for DVDs/videos and some more in the main room too and you're welcome to browse at your leisure, I was encouraged to check them out and mostly at £40, or £60 for 2.

A table was set out at one end of main room with leaflets and flyers for pole-dance-tutors, events and sex-related services. Quite a bit of bondage gear, fair selection of toys (I was taken with the good selection of anal love balls) and there were some leather (I presume) boots on display in various colours. A few of the outfits are on display on mannequin bodies  and there was a TV on a normal channel ( so it was quite relaxing - don't know if that was ever used for showing any of their videos.

I went to this shop purely because of the write up on this site, and I have to agree with the comments already submitted.

All the DVD's are upstairs and priced at £25, (though they are not in defined category area's and are scattered randomly).

The downstairs has an enormous amount of toys and clothing; there is even a dungeon area, that they have given appropriate lighting to, and set behind ‘bars', to give the right atmosphere to those who wish to buy that sort of gear.

The lady serving was none pushy, friendly, and had a very good sense of humour, really putting me at my ease. When I'm back in the area, I will definitely be revisiting this shop.

Can only echo what's already been written but have to comment on just how helpful, knowledgeable and approachable the owners are.

I went to the shop in Sep 06 with my girlfriend looking to buy some toys. The male owner gave the most comprehensive run down of lubes possible and got us to try each to see their effects and then showed us around the toys and let us try out what we wanted - no not like that!

When it was obvious that minds hadn't been made up he even called his wife to see what she advised and she came back to the shop to give her 'expert' opinion.

Purchases successfully bought we went home to enjoy and I can only say - very good advice!

I'd happily recommend this shop to anyone wanting a relaxed and non intimidating environment to explore the fun side of life. Excellent way to shop, well done and thanks.

As someone working in the industry I see a rather large selection of shops of varying quality both licensed and unlicensed across the UK and have to admit that this new store in a quiet industrial estate with ample parking is one of the best and is now fully licensed to sell R18 DVDs.

This sex superstore has vast and clearly marked sections for lingerie, toys, bdsm etc.

There are both male and female staff who are extremely friendly and helpful, the shop is bright and fresh with plenty of room to browse and where you don't feel at all under pressure. The prices are lower than average but you don't feel that quality has been sacrificed for price.

This is the way all adult stores should be!

  News October 2011: Sex Shop Blaze

Police have said that a fire at a Bath sex shop on Friday was started deliberately.

No-one was injured in the fire which broke out at the Private Shop premises in Victoria Buildings in Lower Bristol Road.

An Avon Fire and Rescue spokesman said the fire was quickly dealt with and further investigations into the cause would be carried out later.

Belfast Council moralists have in the past have refused to grant sex shop licences just because. In 2003 Miss Behavin' applied for a licence which was rejected. The shop initiated an appeal which was escalated all the way to the UK's high court which eventually upheld the council's right to ban sex shops just because they felt like it.

Now Miss Behavin' look set to apply for a licence again and early reports from councillors is that opinions are 'divided' which looks a lot more promising than in 2003.

Even before its recent refurbishment making the shop at least 4 times as big, it was well worth a visit for all your sexual needs and more. The staff would order you stuff that they didn't have in and they nearly always had items in.

Since it's recent refurb, however, their stock has become more widespread with new items arriving every day. The staff knew their regulars and would show the latest arrivals they knew we would enjoy. Their array of vibrators and anal toys was vast, along with their dvds and videos.

The staff are great, they try out all the items and will let u try the open vibrators that are behind the counter before you buy. They make you feel welcome and follow our own belief that sex is completely natural and as a woman feel at ease going in their on my own.

Scandals is well worth a visit

I know this review section is supposed to be about shops. How about a shop, a cinema, preview booths, a striptease (four times daily), Oh! yes! I forgot...a private lapdance... No kidding!

As far as I know this place is a one-off! This 'shop' is simply a 'one-stop' sex central

The sex shop alone is worth a visit. They must have 2000 titles available. A great range of toys and clothing too... there were a few ladies in there and couples. As well the usual mix of guys like myself.

It has a 100 seat cinema... playing many of the latest releases. Special preview booths are there too... and I've only ever seen these in Amsterdam. These were great. You can check out a movie before you buy it. The striptease was free, as it was in with the cost of the admittance into the cinema.. About £10 I think. Not sure about the private dance, but this was definitely available.

The staff were very helpful and polite and asked if their help were needed, which it wasn't as they'd already done such a good display of categorizing their movies.

As I reached to pay for my DVD's... My eye was taken to a fantastic area for all sorts of sexual enhancers... too many to mention here.. But I'm sure they'll be needed in a few years.

A one-stop sex centre in the middle of the country a stone's throw away from New Street Station... A wonderful idea in a great location... well worth a visit... How much was that lapdance again?

Shop is quite small but with a good range of films – just a token amount of other stuff (clothes / toys etc).

Only problem is the prices - £35 per DVD. I understand the cost of the licence is £9000 but London is only a train ride away and at £20 per film you would only need to buy a few to pay for a train ticket….

I was in Birmingham with a woman friend recently when she said she'd always wanted to see inside a sex shop. We found one called Amsterdam XXX. We looked around for a while and as we were about to leave the chap behind the counter said there was a cinema downstairs and couples were free. Just have a look, you don't have to stay long.

I followed her down the stairs and into the narrow darkened room. There were about eight men sat about the place watching a porn film on the end wall. We sat down and watched the film, she was more fascinated watching the men in there. Eventually we left, and as we were driving out of Birmingham she said she was surprised how clean and tidy it all was. Not nasty like she'd imagined a place like that would be. Now she's coming up with ideas of what she'd like to do if we went back.

[Following on from getting good discounts at the West Bromwich Private Shop]... Strangely another Private shop at Hockley Hill, Birmingham refused to give any discount at all on three Blu-ray's, had I wanted to purchase them, (Of course I did not).

The manager at West Bromwich (Who apparently manages all three shops in the Birmingham area told me that was incorrect and that I could purchase 3 Blu-ray discs for the same price as HD DVD discs......

My friend and I visited this shop on 19th January 2006. Its a new shop to the area and I didn't think it would be any good due to the location, its mainly surrounded by small businesses that specialise in clothing and its close to the jewelry quarter.

The lad who was running the shop was very pleasant and not at all sleazy as you would expect of a lad who has access to so much porn !!!

DVDs start at £10 each, without a case. They have 3 films on each disc and are good value for money. Being a first timer to this particular shop I was given a freebie which he admitted was rubbish !! BUT it was free so who's complaining???

Good range of toys and hundreds of magazines. Only complaint.... we couldn't look at them first !! Defo be going back as I live locally. BTW My friend and I are female, so its nice to get an opinion from both sides of the coin!!

The shop is owned and managed by Dom Productions which specialises in fetish/BDSM DVDs. So a fair amount of related material is on sale.

There were some expensive DVDs on sale for £40 but there were deals of 3 for 2 on gay films and there was a promotional box of £15 DVDs.

Perhaps a little pricey, but overall, a well presented discreet shop.

New shop very friendly is in an industrial estate but this is not a problem as the shop is light and airy good range of stock which should grow with time also willing to source non stock items.

In the June issue of ETO, their Mystery Shopper was in Bolton, visiting the town's adult stores, visiting 6 stores in the town.

Out of the 6 stores under review, the Nice'n' Naughty branch was the only store awarded the maximum 5 star, As good as it gets in any retail sector rating for its store.

The review went on to say: Inside, the shop has an excellent selection of R18 DVD's; Male and female staff added a pleasant air as I admired magazines and a great toy wall, all to the strings of some gentle calming music. The space was utilised wonderfully, with a central isle holding bondage bits, lingerie and Kinky Heals. Another bell from the door told me I was no longer shopping alone, and a busy shop is a good shop.

Philip Price, Area Manager for the branch, said that it was a testament to the dedication from the company's staff and the commitment they give to their customers that keep them market leaders in the adult retail industry.

Nipped in there yesterday, thinking Valentines day, and me being in serious trouble as I'd not got anything for her yet; and how surprised was I!

First by the range of toys, DVDs and Lingerie, but also by how comfortable the place felt! The guy behind the counter was really friendly, and seemed to know what he was talking about!

They had a great range of Rampant Rabbits, which should keep anyone's wife happy, including mine! He took me through their different functions, and I ended up with an all singing all dancing version that should keep her happy for hours!

Then it was on to something to wear, and ended up with a rather slinky set from Wild Designs!

Will definitely be in there again, and may even treat us to a DVD, will take the wife next time as well, as I'm sure she'll fell as relaxed in there as I did!

I went in there with my boyfriend about a year ago to make a purchase and expected to feel very intimidated being female, but I felt the opposite, I was accepted like any other customer, with just one guy behind the counter, who was most helpful, we weren't rushed or pressured, the shop is only small but with a great choice of toys and DVDs which we looked at as well as mags, books and bondage gear.

I felt comfortable and wouldn't mind going in without my other half if I wanted.

Our purchase was wrapped in brown paper for discretion and we left feeling comfy.

It is a licenced shop and I would recommend it to all who wish to browse and purchase.

The store has a separate film department on the first floor and is DVD heaven with over 1,500 XXX DVDS. The store also has an excellent, Gay DVD section. The DVDs are very competitively priced and Pulse & Cocktails offers an excellent exchange system on all films. The store has a good selection of books and magazines, none of which are sealed and all at very competitive prices.

Emery Lane is a narrow and quaint, pedestrianised street in the centre of Boston. Although the street is small it is very well known locally so if you are not from Boston most local people will direct you to Emery Lane. At the top of Emery Lane is Cash converters we are 100 yards down on the right.

Bournemouth organised a Diamond Jubilee contest prize for Bournemouth's best window display. The Easy Tiger store in The Triangle was crowned as winner for its red, white and blue display with slogans including polish your crown jewels and keep calm, keep it up.

The win was down to a public vote, and Easy Tiger's 87 votes were 40 higher than their closest rival.

Easy Tiger was presented with the Best Independent Jubilee Window Display by the Bournemouth Chamber of Trade and Commerce at the Hotel Miramar. The chamber's vice-president Mandy Payne said it made everyone smile when the winner was announced.

I visited what used to be Clonezone on St James' Street and it is now Nice 'n' Naughty.

I was greeted by a really nice girl (think she was the naughty one LOL). Something that was a surprise in the shop, as normally when I nip in to a gay store, you normally get ignored by the staff!

It had some really nice bits, and seemed to cater for us gay boys and girls really well. I ended up getting a couple of dvds on a multi buy offer, and to my surprise was actually given some customer service!

They had a suggestion box on the counter, and the boy and girl there were really sweet and helpful.

So going to wish the new guys n gals there a lot of luck for the future, nice to see a shop that looks after its customers and willing to get them what they want in a shop.

Combining the best of the boutique style decor with a licence to sell real porn, it was the last and best shop I visited in Brighton. Split into three distinct sections, a lot has been done with relatively limited space.

The main space featured fetish clothing and the third room was the BDSM and bondage equipment area.

There were no magazines nor VHS tapes. There was however a display of fiction and non-fiction books

DVDs on  most subjects could be found, with fetish titles particularly well represented. £30 each, £50 for 2, £70 for 3 and  £100 for 5.

A pervy paradise and this remarkable retailers gets a remarkable score. Full marks.

I can concur with the positive statements about the shop. When I was shopping there was a week long special on videos/DVDs which were priced at £30. I was also given a free DVD as an introductory offer.

The shop is split into 3 sections the 1st section is our office and novelty section with body jewellery some lingerie, lubes, poppers and games etc anything really for a hen or stag party.

The main section then goes into sex toys and more lingerie, we have separate sections for leather, pvc and latex, I would say we probably have one of the largest stock of latex clothing and accessories. I found this shop the other day, and Wow, its got to be the best sex shop in Suffolk.

It's got everything you could want, great selection of R18 DVD's from £19.99-£34.99.

OK it's not a huge shop, but I have never seen so many different make of vibrators in one shop. He has everything in there, and the prices are the best I have ever seen.

The guy how runs it was very helpful and had a good way with customers. My partner felt very relaxed in there, and he can tell you everything you will need to know about the toys.

I would go back time and time again, so if you are in the area its a must if you enjoy sex shops!

As a regular visitor to this store I have to agree with Tony. This shop is great, something for everyone, from outfits to a women's size 26 to the hardcore DVDs/videos on which they do great deals. As a woman I find the atmosphere non-threatening – they're staff are friendly and approachable and as a refreshing change, not all male. For the shy women out there, my advice is to go on a Thursday when there are two women behind the counter. There is always some leniency on price – they will try to get you the best for your money, so don't be afraid to ask for a deal on multiple items. Happy shopping!

There is a really large sex shop in Cardiff called Lovecraft, it's a licensed shop and they sell hardcore videos and magazines, as well as lots of toys and clothing. My self and my husband were not at all embarrassed to go in, it's bright and the staff are friendly, and prices are very reasonable.

Although they have an extensive selection of dvds/vids/mags and toys they are pretty expensive e.g; vids are 35 quid and dvds are fifty...

They have a great selection of films and magazines covering pretty much any and every taste.

They also have a wide range of lubes, dolls, bondage toys and sex toys, including fists/hands, vibrators, dildo's, anal beads, double enders, glass dildo's and butt plugs. Some of the dildo's are huge. They didn't have any really thick / wide butt plugs, various sizes and inflatable ones, but not a wide one for a good stretch!

Staff were very friendly and discrete, making sure that you have what you need for a fun time.

The shop is not large, but is bright and airy and has space for a wide range of toys, games and potions. A couple of walls are covered in DVDs and videos with what looked like a wide range.

Nice 'n' Naughty opened its first store in Chester on 31st August 1999. The shop's management has spent the 15 years modernising its image and making for an attractive and enjoyable shopping experience.

The store now boasts a colourful shop front and sponsorship agreements with local football, cricket and netball teams. Managing director Simon Prescott  told the Leader:

I never would have thought of myself as a pioneer when we challenged Chester City Council's view in 2001 that adult stores should have blacked out windows, it just seemed right we be allowed to put mannequins on display. In reality Nice 'n' Naughty set a new trend, which was not only followed by our other stores, but many of those in the industry.

The policy has worked well and the firm has expanded to 11 stores from Brighton to Newcastle.

We now stock a full range of liquid latex, lingerie in larger sizes and Old English style Nylons.  We have all the latest videos and DVD's which currently totals to about 450 in total (maybe a few more)

Our customers consist of a high number of females and couples, who feel comfortable with the presence of a female staff member. The introduction of a female Manager in September 2000 has expanded the female clientele and the large T/V  & T/S clientele.

We pride ourselves on excellent customer service, which generates return business and our approach to customers has proven successful. Nice 'n' Naughty Leisurewear Ltd has a professional approach and our customers are prepared to travel for good customer service.

  Reader Review: Best customer service

We have been visiting the shop now for some time and have to say of any shop anywhere Nice N naughty have by far the best customer service anywhere. Our first visit will remain with us for years to come. We were after a vibrator and having walked in and spent sometime looking at the extensive range of available products were at a loss as to what to go for. It was our first visit and a little apprehensive as to what to expect. We were approached by a young lady (Trish) who then spent ages explaining each and every product to myself and Girlfriend. At no point were we pressured into spending hundreds of pounds and we felt we would have been as much thought of and received just as much attention if we had wanted just advice. Since then we have visited this shop many many times and the service has just got better. It's so far removed from the stereo typical sex shop it has to be visited to be believe.

If only all sex shops were this good, mind you I am glad they are not, because that's what sets Nice N Naughty aside and makes it such a pleasure to go. Thanks for a great service, a great range of products and best of all the best dedication to your customers we have ever encountered.

At the time of licence renewal the Private Shop requested to open on Sundays. But following an article in the Chester Chronicle, the request was withdrawn.

Private also asked to be able to keep its front door open to signal that the shop is open for business. This request was granted

Only one objection to the shop's renewal was received and the licence was duly granted.

  Review

Visited the new Private shop in Chester at 53 Brook Street an excellent selection of videos/dvd's and toys. Again clean bright fresh smelling and well stocked, to be honest I was surprised to see it was owned by Private. Videos /dvd's are a little more expensive than Nice 'n' Naughty just up the street, but Private have a much better selection of non R18. The guy behind the counter was friendly but unobtrusive.

I found myself in Doncaster the other day in Copley road and found that the old Hot Planet sex shop located at number 35/37 was now called The Naughty Company.com.

I went inside and found a great stocked licensed sex shop. It had loads of R18 DVDs from £5 upwards and loads of offers on all films. Admittedly, the cheaper films were older titles but they also stocked all the latest titles at £25 each, 3 for £50 or 7 for £100 all with half price exchange.

They also had loads of clothing and shoes at the lowest prices I have encountered. The adult toy selection was huge and all priced the same as on their website.

Overall, I found the staff knowledgeable and non-pushy. The shop looks great and I will be going back again soon, only this time I'm taking the wife with me!

This shop is easy to find. Its on left hand side at bottom of Copley Road. Never been to Doncaster before but sat nav took me straight there.

Compared to Naughty Company, further up the road, this shop is on the small side.

It offers sex toys, clothing, magazines and R18 DVD's. The movies are in genre order but it's not really an extensive range. There's a mix of new and old movies.

They have offers for bulk buying movies and do a good returns policy with money off your next purchase.

Staff

A female member of staff greeted me with a hello and asked if I was looking for anything in particular. I looked around the store without feeling pressured in anyway. She answered any questions I had. Overall very friendly, her porn knowledge wasn't the best, but she was polite

I would have to say, if you're planning on visiting a Sex Shop in Doncaster, I would suggest you visit the Naughty Company, just for the more choice element.

I felt relaxed as I admired lots of strap-ons in leather with bright chrome. Bondage equipment made up one wall and there was a bargain bin of discontinued lines.

I was very impressed with this retailers pink exterior. Great use of frosted glass and neon made it look very classy.

As well as a good spread of novelty lines and bondage bits, there was a display of books on the floor.

Beyond dolls I found the DVDs, including titles you couldn't buy in the UK for €60, and more mainstream product for €50, all with a 50% exchange option.

On the third wall was a big range of lingerie. Everything seemed well arranged and clean, and I enjoyed the relaxed shopping atmosphere.

This was my favourite find in Dublin, not least thanks to a first class window display.

It's an exotic adult boutique style store which got bigger as I discovered room after room. The first was a fashion and fetishwear space. The next had bronze bunny-girls with toys and erotic books. The next room with more clothes, medical goodies and glass dildos led to a piercing studio out back and a DVD room. The range of DVDs stretched from €35 to €80.

I'd like to give this shop 5 stars, but I just can't shake the memory of the rather weighty pricing.

  News October 2013: Council zoning excludes sex shops

There were worries for the shop as Central Bedfordshire Council opened a public consultation on a nil policy on adult businesses. In the end the council adopted a morality zone ban on table dancing clubs and sex cinemas but sex shops were excluded from zoning restrictions.

I don't know whether they're licensed or not.

They have a massive range of toys and all sorts of lingerie and fetish wear. The proprietor is a very obliging lady, very unlike some of the 'dodgy geezer' types in other shops. The atmosphere of the shop is more like a boutique, is quite compact and on two floors. The ground floor has a back room displaying magazines, though I saw no hardcore on display.

The DVDs and Videos are literally from 'under the counter'. They have both first and second-hand DVDs at either 50 or 45 each - expensive to say the least. But they do have a half-price exchange policy which I've used without quibble. The  selection was rather limited and it was difficult to browse properly when faced with a pile of titles unsorted in any way. So, the good point was the service and  the range of clothes and toys, the bad points are the prices and the display of the DVDs. I also found their web-site rather poor.

Sex shop opened in 2002. Closed in August 2009. Now a dentist.

License granted in November 2007 but planning permission initially denied. Reported in 2010 as closed for sometime.

The store made the local news as a local killjoy whinged about crotchless knickers displayed in the shop window. Eileen Robinson complained:

I am not a killjoy. This shop is in between McDonald's and the Pantomime Theatre shop, it's inappropriate for youngsters and is not acceptable. These kind of knickers are offensive and are a reinforcement of negative views of women's and children's roles regarding domination of sexual identity.

An Ann Summers spokesman apologised and said that it was not company policy to display erotic products in the shop window.

We actually stock about 2000 DVD's and 750 Video's in each store, we will endeavour however to get any R18 DVD for any customer and we do stock from every available distributor / wholesaler in the UK. We get approximately 50 New Release films every week. We also specialise in our range of magazines and 2000 or so toys, lubes, creams etc and likewise will endeavour to get any item a customer may want. We don't however stock a great amount of lingerie or novelties.

All our DVD's are £25-£30 and videos are £20-£25 with discounts available for multiple buys. We exchange DVDs for £10 within 7 days of purchase or £15 thereafter. We have weekly special offers and all out staff are trained and knowledgeable with regards to our products. We pride ourselves on being clean, brightly lit and "female" friendly and also carry a large range of gay DVDs.

We also have a film club whereby we give a free DVD to regular customers who have purchased 5 DVD's, this doesn't require any personal information, simply a password specific to that individual customer. This is a loyalty club. we do after all appreciate and reward our regular customers as many would testify.

Glass cabinets carry the best sellers like rabbits, glass toys and so on. The front window also has chrome grid wall on the inside and this area is mainly for our range of leather products, like whips and bondage gear.

We are now in our second year at Evesham, and we have been a great success not only with locals but surrounding areas. We encourage people to touch, feel and enjoy. In other words we not only give them advice on any product we sell, but remove it from the box, insert batteries and show them the product features, good and bad points. The Exeter shop is not the worst I've seen, however if you go in with a coupon from a newspaper they will tell you "no, no - we aren't involved in that offer.." or if you try to get a 50% credit on their (way-overpriced) DVD's you will be told: no - you should have read the sign more carefully, we only exchange like-for-like.

Save your money - go to Simply Pleasure at  the other end of town or if you are looking for porn mags, you'll find the "Read & Return" bookshop just opposite.

Simply Pleasure is probably the biggest and brightest sex-shop in the south-west. The staff are courteous and helpful and never do that irritating - hovering behind you "are you looking for anything in particular, sir" - routine. It's a nice shop.

They don't stock many porn mags because at the other end of town is the excellent "Read&Return" bookshop which has a really big porn mag section at the back of the shop -buy new or used.

For hardcore dvd's though, Simply Pleasure is well stocked. Prices as I recall are £45 each or £60 for 2 ( not sure tho) which is a lot, but you can return a dvd (with receipt!) to get a 50% credit on another one. It's the sex-toys that are the main feature of the shop - prices are high (as is always the case if you don't buy mail-order), but they make a point of trying to stock good quality sex-toys that really work ( ask them about the new high tech multi- feature vibrators!). Top marks also for being female/couples friendly.

The shop is difficult to find if you don't know your way around Exeter so take a street map (don't say I didn't warn you!) but there is a small pay-parking zone just outside the shop which is very convenient. One last thing - you might want to take your own bag if you are a little self-concious. They may have changed plastic bag designs by now, but the old "love-shack" branded plastic bags were anything but discreet!

Walk into most sex shops and what do you see? Plain walls, with scruffy looking boxes and crude or lewd pictures.

This isn't what sex shops should be. They should be sexy, alluring, and most of all, as undaunting as possible.

Luke and Jack is an amazing shop which goes above and beyond everything Clone Zone ever did when they owned the shop.

When you walk into the shop, there is a wide range of magazines, mostly (but not completely) aimed at LGBT clientele and books. As well as the usual erotic novels, they have books on sex, such as guides to anal/lesbian sex, strap ons, and more, books on queer culture and films, and an absolutely stunning range of erotic photography books. This theme is continued throughout the shop, with photos and other artwork lining the top of each wall, and sold at a reasonable price. Also in the opening of the shop, there a is wide range of jewelry for sale, as well as some kinky, funny and erotic cards.

It's not until you reach the corner of the shop that you realise that the main part of the shop is a sex shop. With a wide range of sex toys, arranged prettily against some nice, classy wall paper, and some extremely helpful members of staff on hand to provide information, advice, and order items in, the shop is the sexiest sex shop I've ever been to.

I was slightly disappointed by the lack of sex toys for women, but they had a small amount and were willing to order in anything I wanted.

As I left, I asked whether the shop continued downstairs - no, the Virginia Gallery is downstairs, with some beautiful pieces of art which wouldn't be displayed elsewhere. the gallery only adds to the classy service provided at Luke and Jack.

The shop is located in a small precinct of shops next to the cattle market.  A general market is held there on Wednesday's and Saturdays so parking could be a problem.

The shop itself is relatively small, only a medium sized room for a selling area.  It is run by a man and woman, presumably husband & wife who are quite friendly.  They stock hardcore magazines at £15 each or four for £30. Their hardcore VHS format videos are £40 each or four for £100.

(videos are generally £20 in London, magazines <= £10)

I didn't price the DVD's but I presume they will be more expensive than the videos.

They sell the usual range of dildos and sex toys at the usual sex shop prices.

A subtle shop on the outside I didn't even know it was there. Its fully licensed and although a little on the small side its well presented and had
a good range of stock.

Prices were very good for toys and the normal £30 for DVD's and 2 for £50

The staff were very polite and willing to give assistance when asked. All
packaging was discrete and even gave me free batteries! I'll definitely be visiting again with the girlfriend.

Thurrock Council's licensing sub-committee have rejected the sex shop licence renewal for the Adult Store in Grays, Essex.

The committee considered a list of offences committed by the store's manager - including displaying for sale hundreds of sex DVDs that were not licensed and hazardous sex-enhancing products that were not properly labelled.

I visited Temptations in Halifax a week ago. I was enticed into the shop with the promise of 1/2 price DVDs, Upon entering I found a throwback to the 70's! This dark and moody shop stocked DVDs and videos that covered EVERY topic you could imagine at a price of £40 each or 3 for a £100. There were about 3000 titles to choose from.

The guy behind the counter wasn't a modern shop keeper but a surly guy  who offered me a Bully Boy Vibrator for £45 - no discount but he'd give me Free Batteries! I asked about the 50% discount and he told me the prices had been cut in half already.

I found a very strong German film and purchased it. Not a couple friendly adult outlet, just a seedy sex shop full of porn!

  Review from Al, May 2009: Best in Hull

This is in my opinion the best adult shop in Hull. It is situated directly opposite the train and bus station and has the best prices.

The best thing about this shop is that the woman who runs it REALLY knows what she is doing...sadly she employs a woman who often has trouble finding the DVDs for the empty case you've chosen, and an irritating man who asks if you're alright every 2 minutes without fail which gets very annoying. The owner is extremely friendly though, you can ask her anything and she will not embarrass you and make sure you know that she's heard much worse!

The amount of toys is quite small compared to Pulse & Cocktails, but they are generally far cheaper and the buy 2 toys, get 1 half price deal is hard to beat.

There are also fantastic deals on pre-owned DVDs... £15 per dvd or 3 for £30 on most used DVDs and £10 per DVD or 3 for £25 on the others.

I would definitely recommend all Hull residents who are interested in this sort of thing visit it before anywhere else!

I went in here a couple of years ago and it was a great experience, I was served by the manager (who was male) and he couldn't have been more helpful. I ended up getting everything I wanted (and a few extra bits and pieces), and at the time there was an offer on toys so it actually didn't work out too expensive. It was so clean, friendly and welcoming I wish I could have stayed all day!!

However, I recently returned to the Ipswich shop and it couldn't have been a more different experience. For a start the display in the window is nothing like your photo, the lights weren't on, the display was bare and to be honest I wasn't sure whether to try go in as I thought it may be closed down.

My boyfriend went upstairs to look at DVD's whilst I looked downstairs (toys and clothes).

As I went through to the back part of the shop it was bare to say the least, the shop looked like it had been in a robbery, boxes were ripped and hanging off pegs. The carpets were filthy and there was a horrible damp smell.

My boyfriend later told me the managaress had been very pushy trying to sell DVD's and had made him feel very embarrassed about being there.

If you want a relaxed, pleasant experience do not go here. I will definitely be looking for recent reviews on other adult shops in my area.

There is ample town centre parking and Cocks Lane Car park is only 100 Yards past the store on the same side of the road.

  Reader review: Much Better Shop

Sixx is now closed- but in its place is a MUCH better shop called Pulse and Cocktails. It is quite expensive, but it only uses female staff, so is great for women to go in as they are very friendly.

Downstairs (cocktails) they have a toy section, that you can try out (not in a rude way!) their rabbits. They also have other toys and clothes, condoms, lube, magazines, etc.

And upstairs (pulse) is all videos and dvds, with no sales assistant up there- so you do not feel silly looking at dvds with your boyfriend!

This is a great shop and I would certainly go back again.

Plans for a window display at a Kidderminster sex shop have come under fire amid fears it could offend the town's Muslim community.

But the move has led to protests from both a councillor and a church leader in the town who say it could offend both Muslims and other members of the community.

Nice 'n' Naughty Leeds opened in march 2009 and is the only dedicated gay licensed adult store in Yorkshire.

The store is run by friendly and an award winning gay staff that understands the needs and requirements of the gay community.

Nice n Naughty Leeds stocks the biggest selection of gay R18 DVDs in Yorkshire, including labels such as Triga, Bel Ami, Butch Dixon, Dark Alley and many more.

The shop stocks books and magazines including Gay Times and Diva, along with a huge selection of Aroma's, herbal Viagra's, herbal highs, creams lotions and potions!

You will also find a large selection of underwear, briefs, trunks, jocks and thongs-Plus. Nice 'n' Naughty also stock Bum Chums, an underwear range made locally in Yorkshire.

All this plus toys of all shapes and sizes, douches, pumps and strap on's including brands such as Fleshjacks, Rocks off and Electrastim. Then there's bondage wear, bondage toys, rubber, leather and the biggest selection of lube and condoms you will see in Leeds!

  Review from ETO's Mystery Shopper, October 2014: Quirk appeal.

A large choice of R18 DVDs, albeit with many old titles. Mostly at £25, with 3 for price of 2 deals, and 8 for £100. There were also DVDs at £20 with 3 for £40.

Somewhat lacklustre, this generously sized shop had quirk appeal.

The manager was happy and helpful .

This massive superstore is split into two departments.

This first department is Cocktails, which has an excellent range of sexy lingerie, costumes, PVC, latex and hosiery in a variety of styles ranging from sizes 8-26. This department also has a huge selection of naughty novelties, gifts, games and hen and stag night product.

Pulse is where the shopping adventure really begins! The sex toys department is huge with literally thousands of toys from every corner of the globe with many items available to touch in the 'switch on and try before you buy' display area. This store also has an exclusive range of erotic furniture.

The store has a separate massive film department, which is DVD heaven with over 6,000 XXX DVDS. The DVDs are very competitively priced and Pulse & Cocktails offers an excellent exchange system on all films. There is also an excellent selection of XXX books and magazines that are unsealed and very competitively priced.

From the Armley Gyratory head towards Armley on the dual carriageway. Take the first right (approx 400 yards) onto Old Armley Road so you are heading back on yourself, the store is slightly elevated 300 yards on the right.

The manageress couldn't have been more helpful.

DVDs were mostly £35 with a 3 for the price of 2 offer. Others were £30.

Not quite perfect but still mighty impressive.

The Lady who (as far as I'm aware) owns the shop is very cheery, very helpful and a great laugh.

She even offered myself and my friend a cup of tea and biscuits.
