News March 2008: Amor
After 35 years of running the shop as Lovecare, the owner has resigned
and passed the reins into new hands. The shop has changed its name to Amor
Ltd
News June 2006
Previously at 328 Oxford Road but has now moved next door
From the Mystery Shopper,
June 2005:
To their credit, there was a lot of product on the walls
and three small islands which ran across the shop. The down side is that it
felt cramped and rather untidy.
DVDs are £38 each but there are plenty on offer at two for one which
makes for a damn good deal. There are also cheaper ones at £19, two for £35
or three for £45.
It could use a rejig and some brighter lighting, but its far from
terrible.
Undated:
The staff are pretty friendly in
there. They'll be happy to answer your questions and stuff. They have a reasonable
selection of videos (a few less than Darker Enterprises) at around £40 and less magazines
than Darker Enterprises, but have much more sex toys and fetish stuff. I think both shops
do that 'return a video get another half price' deal.

From the Mystery Shopper,
June 2005:There wasn't a name to be found on the shop. Just a
blank window with sign listing the adult stock.
DVDs are £40, £60 for 2 and £100 for 4.
I was greeted with a bit of a grunt from the otherwise friendly man
behind the counter.
Some of the shelves and products could have used a dust. A small and
rather underwhelming shop.
Undated:
The more legitimate shop of the
Reading shops (it kept to the law before everything got liberalized). The shop is quite
nice and clean now since they redid it. They have quite a good selection of magazines (not
compared to Soho obviously) and a reasonable selection of videos as well as limited
sex toys and other stuff. The videos are quite expensive at £40 (compared with the £20
generally found in London) though they do sometimes give impromptu reductions. The guy who
runs it is however pretty grumpy and not exactly an expert in customer service.

From the Mystery Shopper,
June 2005:
This is more an erotic emporium than a sex shop and there were no R18
stuff to be found. Nevertheless it's awash with interesting and unusual
products.

From the Mystery Shopper,
June 2005:DVDs were £40 and VHS titles £30. Both were offered with
a £20 exchange but it wasn't quite clear what this meant. Would I get a £20
credit towards a new film or would it cost me £20 to exchange them for
another title? Still lots of straight, gay & fetish films to choose from.
Bargain movies were priced at £20
From the owner:
We
have a licensed sex shop and sell a large selection of hardcore videos &
DVD's, currently 200+. Cannot comment on the staff but would always be
interested in hearing what others think.

I assume it is licensed as it has a
good selection of XXX DVDs. It also has sex toys and a range of leather play wear.
After
checking it out for friendliness etc., I visited it in February with my wife. We purchased
several playwear items, as it has a small curtained cubicle for trying them on. I have
been back several times since. The staff is female and very friendly. Recently, it has
started opening on Sundays also (from 10-4 I think)

Reader review, April 2006:
Eager to Help
A large shop with a good deal of stock, including many magazines and DVDs.
Very friendly staff, the bloke behind the counter is eager to help. Prices
are average for sex shops. Not at all seedy. Well worth a visit.
From the
bgafd forum:
Huge
If you live in the
North Wales area and you want porn, go to the shop in Rhyl. It's the Porn
Shop Version of Blockbuster Video
It's huge and the moment you walk in there's a picture of Omar, how classy
is that, to see the Legend looking right at yer before entry, He even walked
past me on the Promenade, but seriously check out the shop, its huge and
looks great, has everything you want, even Granny Porn.. what's going on?
By the way I don't work there, its just a cool shop. I wish I did, I tried
to get a job but they guy wouldn't take me on as he only
wanted female workers which is fair enough.
Do check it out.

Europe’s Largest
This flagship store in Rotherham is the largest sexy superstore in
Europe and made the BBC News upon its opening. This gigantic superstore

The first department is ‘Cocktails’, which has an

up outfits on display. The diversity at this store is massive, stocking
a very comprehensive range of sizes from 8-26. This store also has a
full range of wigs, shoes and a fantastic selection of hosiery.
Cocktails also has an excellent choice of naughty novelties and games as
well as an excellent range of hen and stag night products.
Pulse is where the shopping adventure really begins
and is situated on the ground floor! The sex toys department is huge
with literally thousands of toys from every corner of the globe with

Supermarket Like
In
Sheffield and Rotherham there are a couple of pretty large shops called Pulse &
Cocktails. These are quite supermarket-like in layout and atmosphere - very bright and
airy and the staff are friendly and fairly non-intrusive. The prices are a bit steep I
think (£30 for an R18 video or 2 for £50), but they do have preview facilities and an
exchange facility where you can swap any tape for £10 within (I think) 2 weeks.
They've got a good selection of magazines too, but I wasn't totally impressed by them
all being bagged up (no preview copies) even though there are signs saying that if you
want anything opened then just ask.
