I have been a customer of the Private stores across the North West for many years, but this week I went to the new shop that has been recently licensed in Liverpool on Seel Street . All I can say is what a refreshing change. The shop was clean and well lit with the almost unbelievable selection of DVD's and Video's. The guy behind the counter explained that Nice and Naughty took over and completely refurbished it. The guy was really friendly and helpful without the hardsell you become used to in the Private shops, he explained the range of titles and then left me to pick at my own leisure. The prices were a lot cheaper than I normally pay and the choice great. They also had a large section Magazines which the guy explained are up to date and new titles come in every week. Mags are not my thing but the selection was impressive. I purchased 2 DVDs and was stunned when he offered me another one completely free of charge.

If you are fed up of the same old title the Private shop offers and the pushy hard sell attitude - give this place a try.

What an unbelievable difference walking into the new Nice 'n' Naughty in Colquitt Street Liverpool.

I went into the shop last week with my wife and could not believe the difference in this shop compared to other sex shops.

It is the first time I have been into a Nice 'n' Naughty  shop and I have to say that if all other sex shops were up to this standard especially in the South of England the shops would be a pleasurable experience.

The range of rabbits, DVDs, lingerie, outfits, shoes and other goodies was excellent.

The staff were so friendly and helpful not the usual smelly tattooed oaf you get in the shops in the south.

It has given me and my wife a total new shopping experience, its just a shame that the shop is so far away from where we live.

Plans have been unveiled for the county’s first ever fully licensed adult boutique in Liverpool, aimed specifically at women.

Fast-growing adult retailer Nice n Naughty is opening a plush city centre lingerie and accessory store where hanging baskets will adorn the exterior and an appealing shop window display will be the first in Liverpool for more than a quarter of a century after licensing chiefs lifted previous design restrictions on sex industry retailers.

  News October 2008: Longer Opening

The local council have agreed that Adult World can stay open from 10am to 10pm Mondays to Saturdays, and from noon until 8pm on Sundays including bank holidays, but excluding Christmas Day, Good Friday and Easter Sunday.

They also agreed that the opaque film on the window could be removed, and window displays permitted, as long as they involve non-adult merchandise only. General goods must be located at the front of the shop, with the adult area and the general goods areas clearly defined.

The Croydon shop has a wide range of toys, costumes and other goodies. But is run by an up tight woman that looks down her nose at you whilst your shopping around. She has no product knowledge at all and from the attitude of her and her staff would rather be working at a supermarket. The shop is dirty and unorganised it looks like the gift shop at Godstone farm. they should be added to this list just purely to warn others of the lack of service and the general feel of uneasiness.

The Crystal Palace shop has a room above that they let for £25 an hour, minimum 2 hours, with some basic bondage frames to play with.

I know Private shops have something of a reputation, but any time I've been in the Soho branch, the guys at the counter have been very helpful.

Always willing to recommend titles and do decent deals (better rates than the standard deals across the rest of Soho, so I don't mind giving them regular custom).

Prowler Soho was established 5 years ago as a completely different concept from existing gay stores. The huge windows are filled with daring displays - themes this year have included 'Hampstead Heath', Cottaging with George Michael and 'Peep Show', complete with moving screens. Inside the shop sells fashion, underwear, books, CDs and homewares at the front, with an entrance at the back to the Blue Room. This room is probably the smartest sex shop in London, with a range of around 300 gay videos and DVDs, imported toys and magazines. A seperate till point within this room allows for discreet purchasing. All videos and DVDs are licensed, high-quality first generation and are generally £29.99 for both formats. Friendly, well-trained staff are always on hand to advise. Prowler Soho is fully licensed.

Kilburn High Road: The non-porn book shop upstairs actually had a good selection of cheap titles, and I spent £11.00 before I even went downstairs to the porn shop.

Downstairs, I found a grumpy guy on the desk, who seemed to find my presence  an unnecessary interruption to his phone call, but the amount of porn squeezed into such a small space was breathtaking. There was a small but comprehensive display of toys, but a fantastic display of video's and DVD's, which were priced from £15 to £25, plus a good selection of fetish/bi/gay/TS vids, mags and DVD's tucked around the corner.

On the whole, I found the shop contents great, and it's probably best to
just ignore the misery on the counter.

It's a small shop but with good range of lingerie and fetish wear, decent selection of toys and some Videos and DVDs - I'm fairly sure I saw hardcore on display there. The bloke in the shop was very obliging and the prices reasonable.

After a battle with the local council, TLC 48 Windsor Street Uxbridge was granted a licence last October, a small intimate shop that stocks a large range of lingerie, boxed rubber wear and a range of PVC. In the front section of the shop they stock the lingerie etc, alongside a good selection of adult novelties and party gifts. To the middle section they have a selection of shoes and thigh boots that are made to order. A large selection of stockings (often not found elsewhere) and the rear section is devoted to an excellent range of Adult toys, R18 DVD and Video. Licensed UK Sex Shop. Previously Chameleon

The last time I visited (early October), I found they had been taken over by Private. The shop had been closed for a month in August - September time but re-opened pending a refit.

I must admit my heart sank when I saw the change. However, the selection of DVDs was at least as good and the prices cheaper than they were before. The guy behind the counter was the area manager (Steve) who said the shop was going to have a facelift to make it 'a more pleasant place to shop'

He said they would stock around 600 more DVD titles and the prices would be even cheaper.

Maybe things are looking up for Private, normally a chain I avoid if possible.

This shop is in two rooms with more security cameras than staff. The front door opens on to a room displaying erotic lingerie and fetish wear; the back room has display racks of Videos, DVDs and magazines - the vast majority being hardcore.

There is also a limited display of toys in this room. However, the prices are superb - 25 for a DVD from a top US studio. They wanted only 35 for a 'Rambone' dildo which is amazing There are some gay and bi titles stocked.

I bought 2 DVDs. The discs are placed in the packs by the guy at the counter who was very obliging by sex shop standards. They do a 10 exchange, so each DVD could effectively cost 15. Their web site is pretty good too.

I notice this shop is also run by a woman; I guess you can tell. The good points with this shop are the prices and the display of goods. They don't really have room for a greater selection, but
it's good enough. I shall go back to this one, they deserve to do well.

The As a change I tried 'Simply Pleasure' in Loughborough, which happens to be only 200 yards from the Private shop.

I recall the lady who ran Chameleon saying 'You should see how much a DVD costs up the road!', implying they were expensive. Well, if they were, there's nothing like a little competition to lower the prices.

The shop suffers, as does its competitor, from the lack of decent parking. You're limited to finding a gap in the side streets; the shop in question is exactly on the apex of the junction of the main roads, so you have to find some parking in the roads behind the shop and walk a little.

Once you've made the effort and found somewhere to park, it's worth it. The shop has a small entrance partitioned off from the rest of the shop. Once in, it's brightly lit and all in one room. There is a great selection of DVDs (all major studios) and most tastes are catered for. They ask £30 per DVD but buy 2 and you get one free, so its 3 for £60 which is the price you can expect to pay in most shops now.

There seems to be a good selection of toys and mags, though they were not my main focus on my visit. They had a good selection of 'Score' DVDs, so if you're into big tits, this shop is for you. The guy behind the counter was friendly without being over the top.

I'll go again, it was well laid out and made choosing easy.

  Review from Pat, March 2007: Huge Stock of DVDs

As the last reviewer stated, there is a huge amount of adult DVD’s on offer, covering just about everyone’s taste, with £20 being the standard/maximum price. There were some cheaper ones that they were trying to get rid off, but they also seem to run a DVD rental service as well now, so you don’t have to buy.

Friendly, funny guy serving too, which along with the good stock, makes you want to return to the store again.

The cheap adult dvd store has a massive selection of films well over a thousand, probably nearer to 1500.

I'm a gay guy and the selection in that department is about 200 titles. £20 to buy and a tenner to exchange, they also had old vids 3 for a fiver, mental.

The guys were very friendly and even gave me a free local magazine that had a cover price of £7. Highly recommend the place, and as Jim's review says, the guy offered me a exchange for £5 if it was back in 7 days

Foxy Lady has changed into the cheap adult DVD centre. much cheaper, DVDs start at 10 quid, then go to 15 and then all other titles are 20 including all new titles.

They don't stock clothing anymore and all DVD exchanges are a tenner. all videos cost ten quid to buy.

The staff has changed and sad to see the girl Gemma gone but I found they guy in there a laugh. He also told me that if I brought my DVD back within 7 days he would exchange it for a fiver.
