It's traditional for highbrow critics to feign ennui in the face of pornography. Well I ain't highbrow: I be dumb. As such, I don't mind admitting I didn't find Dr Screw boring. No. I found it morbidly fascinating.

What got me was this: the pornstar cast are clearly having genuine sex - yet thanks to our hopeless censorship laws both they and the programme's editors are forced to perform a bizarre game of muckypup peek-a-boo as they do so.

The end result is a nonsensical compromise. It's OK to see an erect penis, apparently, but you can't see it penetrating anything... except sometimes you sort of can. Cunnilingus is shown in fairly explicit detail, while blowjobs are hidden behind cupped hands or strategically-posed thighs... except sometimes they're sort of not. It's like an orgy that can't decide how rude it wants to be.

I'm not complaining - just baffled. These regulations seem inherently pointless, like the American public drinking law that leads winos to swig cans of beer from within brown paper bags. At the end of the day, they're still winos, still in public, still drinking beer. So what's the point?

Protection, presumably. Yet since the show is broadcast on a restricted-access post-watershed channel requiring PIN code entry (and a payment) to view, then who, precisely, are we protecting? The mugs prepared to pay to watch it? That's so circular it makes my head spin.

Hardcore smut has been legally available in Britain since the introduction of the R18 certificate six years ago. More recently, Michael Winterbottom's 9 Songs (which features more real sex than most marriages) was broadcast uncut on Sky Box Office (another PIN-restricted service). The other week, a leering C4 documentary on notorious bestial porn flick Animal Farm included a close-up of a man's face while he had sex with a chicken. Yet dedicated adult channels aren't allowed to show explicit consensual sex. Why?

Because porn's embarrassing and tawdry and we don't want that muck on our airwaves? Then ban it outright and have done with it. This present fudge just makes Ofcom look like bigger idiots than the pornographers themselves. And that's saying something.

They often show films produced by Dane Productions (a company known in the adult film business as being the company that gives pornstars lots of money to do almost nothing). Amatuer Babes doesn't actually show any Amatuer material at all, not in the sense of 'voyeurism' or 'home-made porn', it just shows badly produced films (or what I call films that Cathy Barry threw away).

But the live call system does not work. I have phoned many times and had to listen to a long introduction. Only after this can you make your selection. In every case I have been told the girl on screen is on a call...and you can see that is not true. It seems that this side of the service is just one big con to get you to stay on the phone and run up a massive cost at £1.50 a minute. And I have complained using a text message. Waste of time...the respondent did not even know what I was talking about.

As well as English, German and French (all with English audio) football coverage and some fairly recent Hollywood fare the Albanian package now has a dedicated 24 hour hardcore porn channel.

Channel X shows the classier side of porn with some tasteful output from Private and some US producers. Channel X previously showed softcore Playboy stuff throughout the day. If your lucky you may not see the same film in 24 hours. If you like Private then your in luck as they show a wide range from their massive output including stuff like Tanya Hyde.

Around 10:45pm (UK time) until 4am each night Channel X is joined by two other channels (DigitAlb 7 and 8) showing similar stuff. Films have English audio and no subtitles on the hardcore output.

With the bonus of mainstream films and football this is a pretty good package.

InXtc had a Saturday Night Live Gang Bang show (which I didn’t see, so can’t comment on) but this ceased some time ago, only to be replaced by the completely softcore male/female Le Grand live show – which was a waste of time. I had contacted them a number of times, and received quick replies, but when I started to complain about the Le Grand live show, their replies eventually dried up, and they have ignored further contact! This show was stopped after only three weeks, so I guess I wasn’t the only person to complain. Also, I noticed that once a few critical posts turned up on their forum, about the Le Grand live show, they pulled the forum from their site – coincidence?

However, though their solo female live shows went through a brief softcore (no penetration) period, they are now hardcore, with vaginal penetration by fingers and dildos, and they also show some female/female shows with similar strength content, plus some explicit cunnilingus. Not great, but better than nothing, and some (though definitely not all!!!) of the models are quite attractive – anyone interested can see them on the FTA softcore channel Eurotic TV. By the way, they didn’t seem to be getting many calls to the shows on InXtc, and have dropped the telephone numbers, so the shows are live performances, rather than phone in shows.

May 19th 2005: Thanks to DJ and the members of the INXTC Forum

InXtc TV, from the Austrian hardcore package available on Eurobird and Hotbird have stopped transmitting hardcore live shows. Instead the channel now shows the softcore live shows from its sister channel, the free to air eUrotic TV.

No one has said that the film content of the channel has gone softcore so it doesn't seem to be a regulation problem. Perhaps they can no longer afford two sets of cast and production team to support two different shows and are consolidating resources.

The website is still advertising hardcore live shows so the channel could surely be done for false advertising.

I have emailed the management and will let you know if I find any explanation.

I noticed about a week ago that the picture quality of the hardcore films screened on these two channels had got much worse. In the past, they were both showing recordings nightly recorded the previous day from Private Spice (Hot Bird.)

The recordings on Tu Tele Local now look like they are being played from a VHS tape recorded in Long Play. The recordings on La Tele Local have severe colour-bleeding problems and extremely low-level audio.

I realised last night that they are now showing recordings of the Redlight TV channels instead of Private Spice. I can't say which channel(s) exactly, as the logo is blanked out in the top right-hand corner of the screen.

So far I have seen the same films / recordings repeat over several evenings. I don't subscribe to the Redlight TV package - so I don't know if this means the channels repeat a lot, or if the two "Tele locales" only own a couple of recordings!

This transponder remains much weaker (for some reason) than most of the others from Hispasat, so I do not recommend using a small dish (i.e. 70cms as the absolute minimum.)

Maybe worth looking at for somebody wondering whether to subscribe to Redlight? So far there seems to have been a bit of variety - the first film I saw had a lot of urolagnia in it as well as the more common fare!

The FTA hardcore starts at 11PM UK time - give or take a few minutes either side.

18 Rated material does Not Require Encryption

There is no Ofcom regulation that requires that 18 rated softcore should be encrypted during night time hours. (eg broadcast TV shows 18 rated films unencrypted). As the softcore channels are banned from showing R18 hardcore then they must be showing 18 softcore, and that can be transmitted free to air.

Having had the Private Spice card for a couple of months, I have to say that the boat is still out. For me, the card does not compare favourably with the Inxworld card.

On one hand, Spice does seem to have the best picture quality, but not that far ahead of Dorcel TV.

The variety of material is good, covering the mainstream to the fetish. But when pitted against the 5 channel Inxworld card, Spice's variety starts to look less varied - sooner or later that same type of material will crop up on the Inxworld channels.

Again, given it's european background, Spice features a lot of euro-style porn, which for me is a bit of a put off. Lots of beautiful scenery, samey looking euro-girls and almost autocue acting don't really float my boat.

I've got my Red Light TV card just few weeks ago but I feel a great deception and frustration of the material offered through 4 channels which are showing 2 or 3 same movies day and the night. Most movies are produced in the 90s, the colors suck and picture quality very poor and pixelated at times, specially on close ups.

Those channels are the best window from which you can throw your money, with too much regret!

And another thing, further to my report on SportXXX is splitting its live show over two channels, and making you pay 5.99 for each of them, I have now watched a couple of the shows.

On 941, you get two hours of show, minus about 30 mins of adverts, from 10 to midnight (923 has the show from midnight to one, I assume adverts and content are similar to what is on 941). At a rough guess, at least 20 - 30% of screen time is R18 content (WARNING - NO PENETRATION STILL), with the focus on close up oral genital shots along with the occasional oral anal. You get prolonged full screen shots of lips, flaps, holes, clits, orifices all being generally sucked, licked, prodded and poked with tongues. The camera "slips" during dildo use are (I believe) more frequent, although still nowhere near enough to make me pay to watch again, and they appear to have no problem with fisting, and although there is no direct show of the action, the camera makes it very clear what's going on.

I don't understand. This show clearly has as much R18 content as many R18 films. I don't get how one or two channels can produce this sort of content, while other main channels beaver away producing content that barely gets an 18 certificate (and in some cases could probably get a 15).

So, have Sport decided to ignore the guidelines - in which case why haven't they ignored them completely? Have they received special approval for this content - in which case why aren't the other channels doing the same, and why haven't the guidelines been changed to reflect this? Or are they just doing it to get people like me talking about how hard the show is in comparison to the rest se we forget they want to charge us £12 for what we used to pay £6 for, and will it stop as soon as the first complaint is made?

TVL / TeleSierra disappeared from Hot Bird a while back (late 2005 I think). That comment in the Satellite X Channels Review about TVL allegedly showing a sex scene featuring a woman and a horse is true. I saw it the clip a couple of times and couldn't quite believe it. It lasted several minutes (in stark contrast to some of the other clips they showed that lasted seconds) and featured both vaginal and anal penetration. In April, after over 3 years of an increasing number of repeats, schedules nothing like shown on the SKY EPG and the availability of better content on the Net, I cancelled my TVX subscription by registered post with a cancellation date 6 weeks from the date of the letter.

Lo and behold, my credit card was charged in June for June - July. I obtained a Proof of Delivery from the Royal Mail for the registered letter and sent all the details to the credit card company. A refund was arranged.

I've just had my bill for July. There, large as life, is yet another charge from Portland Enterprises (TVX).

On contacting the credit card company again they told me that, given the process is automated, they have to charge the card and I will have to apply for credit each month.

As far as I'm concerned, given the subscription was cancelled and a signature received for the letter, the charge appearing on my card is THEFT. No doubt the credit card company will get sick of my calls in time and do something about the situation but, until they do or the people at Portland Enterprises stop stealing from my credit card company, I will have to spend time ringing for the credit each month, and pay the figure on the card statement as the credit cannot be deducted until the following month's statement.

Thank you Portland Enterprises. Presumably you wish to give the adult industry a bad name.

I STRONGLY SUGGEST anyone tempted to join TVX thinks very hard before giving them a credit card number which they will take as a licence to print money in perpetuity.

TVX3 - Freeview then a 20 minute live show followed by repeats of previous live shows.

TVX1 - The only one worth watching but like them all, far too many 10 minute freeview interruptions.

IMHO, the freeviews and website promise far more the station actually delivers. Most of the descriptions (off the 'i' button) are scandalously inaccurate and bear little relation to the program itself.

As for hardcore, you get the occasional 'slip' and see a little more, but this is probably just a teaser to make you think it gets better. It doesn't.

I noticed about a week ago that the picture quality of the hardcore films screened on these two channels had got much worse. In the past, they were both showing recordings nightly recorded the previous day from Private Spice (Hot Bird.)

The recordings on Tu Tele Local now look like they are being played from a VHS tape recorded in Long Play. The recordings on La Tele Local have severe colour-bleeding problems and extremely low-level audio.

I realised last night that they are now showing recordings of the Redlight TV channels instead of Private Spice. I can't say which channel(s) exactly, as the logo is blanked out in the top right-hand corner of the screen.

So far I have seen the same films / recordings repeat over several evenings. I don't subscribe to the Redlight TV package - so I don't know if this means the channels repeat a lot, or if the two "Tele locales" only own a couple of recordings!

This transponder remains much weaker (for some reason) than most of the others from Hispasat, so I do not recommend using a small dish (i.e. 70cms as the absolute minimum.)

Maybe worth looking at for somebody wondering whether to subscribe to Redlight? So far there seems to have been a bit of variety - the first film I saw had a lot of urolagnia in it as well as the more common fare!

The FTA hardcore starts at 11PM UK time - give or take a few minutes either side.

Canal 47 Seville has changed its name to "Tu Tele Local" (Your local TV) via Hispasat 1D at 30W (11.615H 27500+3/4). It shows recorded programming from Private Spice  from around 11PM UK time seven nights a week. The same recording is networked on "La Tele Local" on the same transponder (the same company owns both channels) but at a much lower picture quality.

Picture quality is reasonable for free. Whereas before they just whacked loads of phone numbers over top of the picture, which meant you couldn't see roughly the bottom third, the whole image is now shrunk towards the top right hand corner above the adverts. Personally I think it's better that way. Schedule details can be found on www.spiceplatinum.nl. Fortunately you can work out what you're watching because Tu Tele Local kindly leave the on-screen listings in between films. Could be worth looking at for somebody in two minds about subscribing to SP?

I would let everybody know that the people that run Xplict XXX are not lowlife, rather, we are here to do a job, so let’s not get so personal please.

Yes we repeat our programmes, but we have staggered the times of the repeats so that a programme never goes out at the same time each day. You may also have noticed new programs being advertised regularly both on the channel and the website, as well as the fact that we have amended the way that the EPG is compiled. As requested, you can now record the entire nights programming without having to re-enter a pin at the end of each show. We have taken many of the comments on board from the Melon Farmers forum and we hope that this has been recognized.

As to us “airing the same programmes from over a year ago & cutting them to death”, we don’t edit programmes that are already being aired on the channel, it’s a waste of time and money. Also, I can assure you that as of February 2006 we have had over 20 hours of brand new content on the channel and every month we’ve done our level best to ensure that at least 2+ new titles are aired each month. We have just entered into a great deal with production companies from the UK to the Czech Republic, which has secured us great new content, never shown before in the UK and exclusive to Xplicit XXX. These programmes will be advertised on the channel and the website, so look out for them.

Regarding our forum being down, we are still experiencing technical problems and until these have been resolved, the forum will remain down.

Lastly, as far as our “Fuck you Jack, we have your dough, so we don’t care attitude”, is concerned, let me assure you that we do care, as without customers like yourselves, we “low lives” are out of a job.

Now let me get on with the terrible oh so boring XplicitXXX, I would warn anybody from subscribing to the lowlife people that run this complete trash, they have an obscene amount of repeats on, I have recently re-subscribed because I noticed a few new programs advertised on there website www.xplicit932.co.uk but after a frustrating couple of weeks in which I couldn't tape the programmes [and they have amended that by the way, with you being able to tape it again,] well I did say a few programmes and guess what, they are still putting the same programmes on from over a year ago, only this time they are cut to death, not just putting them on but repeating them night after night after night....need I say more, this must be eligible for the channel with the most repeats in history of all the channels that have ever been on any TV in the world.

They have now taken there forum off [said it was under repair, about 4 weeks so far, and if you try to contact them through the website you will get a "page cannot be found" message as they once again go off on one of there F*ck you jack we have your dough so we don't care attitudes. Be warned and save your cash!

Well I paid for a one months subscription. Whilst they say you are only obligated to sign up for one month, it is actually impossible to do so. you must give them 30 days written notice, which means you by default have to pay for 2 months.

Although I havent had a viewing marathon and only occasionally switched it on, I was surprised that you very rarely see below the waist. Now it is without a doubt softer than all the one night live shows and even softer than the redhot x8 channels. There is very little solo girl stuff so most of the time you are watching the blokes face or his shoulder. It really is bad softcore, actually no, softcore would be better than this. this is un simulated hardcore filmed from angles which prevent anything being seen. Because it is unsimulated, you dont often get to see any wide shots and rarely see breasts.

It is a very poor channel indeed. Still, worth the 20 quid just to make sure no one else wastes their money.

Another thing about xplishit. They manage to stretch 1 sex scene which should normally last 20 minutes into 1 whole hour. Not with adverts mind, but with looping some shots over and over and swapping the audio, they will also have a great deal of lead ins, and worst of all they will fade to black part way through and have a 'end of part one' card, then immediately come back with 'part two' cards and give you a few minutes of what you had just seen, just in case you had forgot.  Its the cheapest pile of crap I have ever seen..

Since all the babecast channels are being bumped down into the 900s I expect them to become stronger and thus give the pay per view channels a run for their money. Well, they do anyway. Not out of strength, but out of the fact that at least they don't pretend to be hardcore, breasts only, but at least you see the ladies the whole time and are not confronted with awful closeups of the backs of their heads or their feet.

I'm with xplicit also and the thing that bugs me is the inconsistency of it. Obviously you won't see blowjobs or penetration but some of their shows otherwise are excellent with prolonged full-on below the waist shots. The problem is that the rest is complete soft utter rubbish.

That's what I don't understand. If they can show the harder stuff at all why not show it ALL THE TIME. What on earth possesses them to buy the crap stuff in the first place? The new "30 hours of filth" they are advertising is just as mixed. Some of the shows are excellent (the first few hours of tonight should be good) but some of the same batch are just awful awful awful.

Paul T described this non-penetrative R18 stuff in an earlier post as a 'twilight world of acceptability' but that doesn't answer the question of why they only do it sometimes.

If anyone has any contacts in the sky porn channels can you ask them why.

Several people have commented that it is no longer possible to record Xplicit using Sky plus. We checked with Xplicit and it would appear that this is not entirely correct, you can record Xplicit using Sky plus but you must re-enter the PIN number at frequent intervals. When asked how often it was necessary to enter the PIN number we were told:

At the end of each event i.e if you have an hour long film, then at the end of the event you will need to re-enter the pin, the same for 30 minute programmes. For January I have stacked 30min programmes into 1 hour slots for the EPG, so viewers will have to enter their pins 6 times for the night. In Feb, I will create 2 hour slots for 30min events, but the 1 hour films will remain 1 hour slots.

So there you are. If you own $ky+  you will not be able to record Xplict overnight. The best you can hope for is 2 hours worth and more likely a lot less. We recommend that you don't bother. Xplicit (along with all other UK adult services) have to live with the censorship regime imposed by Ofcom and the content you want to see will be cut before it gets to your screen. We recommend any service that is not regulated by Ofcom. Such services are legally available from Europe with a modest investment in equipment, check any satellite magazine for details.

If you must subscribe to a UK service don't use $ky+ to record it as the advanced features of this device will make your life hell. Use a good old fashioned video recorder and don't expect too much in the way of content.

Tried recording Xplicit myself recently and found the same. Spoke to them and they stated the terms and conditions state you cannot record the programs. The operator stated it was not allowed due to the data protection act. I deal with this act on a daily basis and asked for the relevant section. She had no idea.

I must disagree with "Big Andrew" 19th Dec 2005. After reading his comments I had a go at recording and found no problem at all. However, I do agree with him on the Data Protection Act comment. I don't think the DPA comes into context here as they are not disclosing personal details of the "Actors" are they?

I said a while ago that I was feeling more positive about R18 on TV. As I can't get the buggers to answer any emails, here are the details for those that want to know.

The show in question was an episode of Rubber Ron broadcast at 11:30 on 1st December. It has since been repeated at the same time on 7th December, and (due to their 6 day repeat cycle) should be on again on the 13th, 19th 25th and 31st December at the same time.

BE WARNED - the quality is the usual Rubber Ron stuff, bits of it are repeated during the half hour that the show lasts, its the only 'harder' show on during the night, there are (as far as I can tell) no other 'hard' episodes on during December.

Xplicit have now changed to having full info on the Sky EPG which for some reason has caused it to be necessary to type in your Pin number every time a new show starts.

"Xstream" on Hotbird (Hotbird 12476/H/27500) is broadcasting some pretty explicit free to air stuff at the moment which would be definitely R18 Lesbo, but much more explicit than would be allowed on the likes of Sky channel 984.. Insertion of fingers into both lower orifices etc, The only problem is that there's phone numbers all over the screen. You can still see the intimate details though

Xstream have been showing that for a couple of months. They also do male/female oral and vaginal/anal finger penetration. Really funny thing is, they pixelate or hide erections, despite everything else.

Seems to be quite popular. Their downside is that they are not 24/7 and they only show one or two titles a night and with many repeats.

I have had a legitimate ABsat card which is for the bouquet of about a dozen channels on Hotbird. The package includes XXL which is on every day from 9pm to about 2 am. from 9 to 11 its softcore (French 16 rated) and from 11 there are 2 hardcore films every night. As far as I can tell, each film is repeated once in the month's schedule.
 
The hardcore is French 18 rated which is hardcore as you and I would understand it. Sometimes the quality is excellent and sometimes poor. This depends entirely on the original material which comes from a variety of sources and countries, including American films and those Italian costume dramas with 2 dozen actors on set.
 
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it. You don't have to watch the other French programmess but I enjoy them.

However, emails to support@xxxtv24.com bounce back from postmaster@premiumtv.co.uk. Emails to postmaster@premiumtv.co.uk bounce back and its beginning to look like there is no way of cancelling!

XXX TV and Amatuer Babes are pretty much the worst channels on Sky Digital or NTL at the minute. They often show films produced by Dane Productions (a company known in the adult film business as being the company that gives pornstars lots of money to do almost nothing).
 
Overall, both channels are completely worthless
