Morality in Media write to the UN with the ludicrous claim that pornography is a form of torture
|

See Morlity in Media porn report [pdf] from endsexualexploitation.org

The US morality campaign group, Morality in Media, now calls itself the National Center on Sexual Exploitation. It has now published a couple or reports to be sent to the UN ludicrously claiming that prostitution and pornography are somehow forms of
torture. The moralists write:
The United Nations must recognize that all individuals have an inherent right to be free from the sexual exploitation, objectification, and violence which are inherently found in prostitution and pornography.
The experiences of physical, mental, and verbal abuse commonly experienced in both pornography and prostitution are consistent with torture and should be addressed accordingly. This is why the National Center on Sexual Exploitation submitted two
important reports to help inform the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Torture, Juan Mendez, as he formulates a thematic report on gender perspectives on torture. These documents, The Gender-Based Torture Found in the Pornography Industry and On a
Street Corner Near You: Pimps as Practitioners of Torture, addressed research and precedent in international codes that the UN ought to apply to a formal recognition of pornography and prostitution as forms of torture.
Due to the advent of the Internet, the problem of pornography has especially escalated to a pervasive and globe scale. An individual in Africa can watch the torture of an American woman, while someone in Germany can be downloading the digital evidence of
sexual abuse that occurred in the Middle East.
One of the world's largest pornographic websites recently released an annual review that revealed statistics on porn consumption by country. By percentage of traffic, the United States was the primary consumer of the videos, followed by the U.K., India,
Canada, Germany, France, Australia, Italy, Brazil, and Mexico. The violent and sexualized torture that is inherently part of the nature of pornography must be recognized on an international level.
The treatment experienced by female pornography performers and prostituted persons is often identical to the treatment of women who are recognized as torture victims. It is therefore time for the United Nations to take a stand, and to fight for the
dignity of all.

California's health and safety will take another vote on shutting down local porn producers

California's Health and Safety dept say it's ready to hear another case for requiring condoms in adult films about a month after a similar measure failed by a vote.
The state Division of Occupational Safety and Health's Standards Board voted 3-2 in favor of the rules in February, but four votes were required to pass the measure. Two members of the panel were absent.
The board was petitioned by anti-porn campaigners at the AIDS Healthcare Foundation on March 3.
Dozens of porn industry representatives attended February's hearing and testified the new rules wouldn't just result in content people wouldn't want to watch, but also force the industry underground, endangering the health of actors. In addition to the
condom requirement, the rules would also require movie producers to pay for medical visits , treatments and other health-care costs. The rules would have also required making sure workers' eyes were protected.

Utah House and Senate pass resolution claiming that porn is creating a public health crisis
|
4th March 2016. See article from deseretnews.com
|
After passing the state Senate with ease, a resolution claiming that pornography is a public health hazard appears on course for passing in the House too.
The resolution's sponsor, Sen. Todd Weilersaid it had drawn national attention. He said:
The world is watching what we're doing with this resolution, and I couldn't be more thrilled
SCR9 claims that pornography contributes to the hypersexualization of teens, increases the demand for sex trafficking and has stoked desire among adolescents to engage in risky sexual behavior.
Weiler said the research to back up the resolution's claims mostly come from a symposium organized by the anti porn campaign group, National Center on Sexual Exploitation, formerly known as Morality in Media Inc. A group not exactly known for properly
conducted science based research. He said of his cockamamie idea:
I want this committee to know this is not some cockamamie idea. Some of it's social science, some of it's hard science. [but most of it is moralistic bullshit]
Weiler spoke of the follow up to the resolution:
A lot of people have asked me, 'Where are you going with this? Are you trying to ban pornography?'
The short answer is no, according to Weiler, but he said that much like tobacco, lawmakers should be trying to limit children's access to it. Weiler said he supports measures in the U.K. that would make the Internet pornography-free by default and
require Internet users to actively opt-in to get sexually explicit content.
Update: House too
14th March 2016. See article from ksl.com
The Utah House of Representatives has passed a resolution claiming pornography to be a public health crisis. The resolution is the first of its kind in the country.
The resolution declaring pornography a public health crisis will now be sent to Governor Gary Herbert for his signature.

James Deen's production company fined $78,000 for not using condoms
|

California's Health and Safety dept have fined James Deen's porn production company $78,000 for not using condoms as required by local law.
Cal/OSHA officials said the fines stem from a Jan. 12 inspection at a film shoot in Woodland Hills, LA, saying that in addition to the lack of condoms, the producers did not provide vaccines or follow-up exams to performers who may have been exposed to
hepatitis B.
Citations were issued for nine alleged violations by Third Rock Enterprises, including four considered "serious," which designates a violation that could cause serious harm or death, according to Cal/OSHA.

XBiz Europe pulls its business conference out of London in favour of Berlin as there is very little of the adult business left in Britain
|
See article from sexandcensorship.org
|
XBIZ, a US adult industry trade group, has announced it will no longer run its European show in London. The 2016 XBIZ Europe event will take place in Berlin instead.
The show has taken place in London for the past five years, bringing together adult industry participants from around the world to talk business, regulation and politics. But the increasingly moralistic, censorious nature of the UK has forced XBIZ to
reconsider. As this blog has often pointed out, the UK stands almost alone in Europe in its determination to stamp out sexual expression. The UK's legitimate adult industry is virtually extinct, as operators have closed their doors or moved overseas.
This has resulted in job losses as well as tax losses for the exchequer. XBIZ CEO Alec Helmy explained:
... we didn't foresee just how unfriendly UK would become toward adult. From ATVOD (previous content police) fining adult webmasters for non-compliance and scaring many out of business to radical feminists picketing our venues and local media's negative
tone toward adult, the climate became more and more difficult as each year passed. And now with OFCOM (equivalent of FTC) taking full charge of content regulation, the general consensus is that things are going to get even bleaker.
As much as we've felt a sense of duty to empower the UK industry by returning each year, it's become too unwise for us to continue doing so.
So, we're packing up and relocating the conference to another one of Europe's top destinations for both business and pleasure, Berlin.

InterContinental hotels joins the list of those claiming the moral high ground by ending in-room adult movies when in fact free porn has killed the business
|
See article from lifesitenews.com
|
The InterContinental Hotels Group has decided to remove on-demand pornography from every location in its international chain.
Dawn Hawkins of Morality in Media, now known as the National Center on Sexual Exploitation crowed about the decision:
We are grateful to Intercontinental Hotels Group for the priority the company placed on working with the National Center on Sexual Exploitation in order to ensure that none of its hotels profit from sexual exploitation. InterContinental Hotels Group has
committed to rigorously enforce a brand standard prohibiting the distribution of pornography across all of its brands, such as Holiday Inn and Crowne Plaza.
Free streaming pornography has largely made in-room, on-demand pornographic services unprofitable. Robert Habeeb, president and CEO of First Hospitality Group, estimated that a 200-room hotel could make just $2,000 a month from the rental of pornography.

California's health and safety department votes against rules requiring condoms for porn production
|
See article from xbiz.com
|
California's Occupational Safety & Health Standards Board has voted out proposed rules requiring condoms and goggles for porn production. The vote was won 3 to 2.
The final draft of the proposed regulations, known as § 5193.1, not only required condoms for all filmed sex, but also barrier protection for eyes, skin, mouth and mucous membranes where there is possible contact with potentially infectious
materials such as pre-ejaculate, vaginal secretions and other bodily fluids.
This rather required a full diving suit worth of protection including condoms, dental dams, goggles and gloves.
The new regulations were initiated five years ago by Michael Weinstein, anti porn campaigner and head of the AIDS Healthcare Foundation.
Eric Paul Leue, executive director of adult entertainment trade group Free Speech Coalition, addressed the jubilant crowd of talent that gathered outside of the Harris State Building, stating that the organization is prepared to continue to fight any
future drafts of proposed regulations.

Politician tables resolution claiming porn to be a public health crisis

|
The US state of Utah is considering a resolution that claims that porn is a public health crisis. Senator Todd Weiler filed the resolution, SCR. 9 Concurrent Resolution on Friday .
According to numerous reports, Utah is one of the states with the highest rates of pornography use in the US.
The resolution lists all the bollox claims made by nutters and moralists and accepts them as part of the 'crisis'. Examples include that pornography is leading to damaging addiction, the hypersexualisation of teenagers, prostitution and other problems.
The resolution states:
Whereas pornography use is linked to lessening desire in young men to marry, dissatisfaction in marriage, and infidelity.
Legislature and the Governor [must] recognize the need for education, prevention, research, and policy change at the community and societal level in order to address the pornography epidemic that is harming the people of our state and nation.
Psychology Today described the legislative action as:
Based on hyperbole and morality, ignoring much of what is known about pornography and its effects. Further, the Senator's resolution relies on pseudoscience in a manner which has no place in governmental action.
Before banging on about morality, perhaps the Utah senator should consider whether porn causes as much trouble in the world as religion.
