Summary Review: Last for Jet Li
Fearless is inspired by the life of Huo Yuan Jia, real-life Chinese martial arts master. Jet Li plays this legendary figure, whose martial arts style and fearless fight helped the people in China regain their pride in the
early 20th century when China was intimidated and humiliated by the growing Western and Japanese powers. |

See article from dvdcompare.net Director Ronny Yu reduced the length of 'Fearless' from 143 minutes to 103 minutes to speed up the pacing of the movie. The subplot with Michelle Yeoh has been cut. In the original cut the story of Huo Yuanjia is told by Miss Yang an Olympic official. In the early part of the movie Huo Yuanjia is in exile in a Thai village and to save a boy from being punished for stealing an ox, he is forced into a match with a local boxer, played by Somluck Kamsing. Ronny Yu made the cut after audiences from an internal screening criticized the film for being too slow and the Olympic sub-story being too irrelevant to the main plot. 1967 US/UK comedy horror by Roman Polanski. With Jack MacGowran, Roman Polanski and Alfie Bass.
UK: Passed 12 uncut for:
US: Uncut and MPAA Unrated for:
Summary Review: Jokes and Atmosphere The film perfectly captures the atmosphere of a snow- covered Transylvania, plagued by the sinister menace of an evil that the locals would rather keep under wraps. When the hapless Alfred (Roman Polanski) and his master Professor Abronsius (Jack MacGowran) arrive at an inn for the night, they stumble upon a community reluctant to discuss their embarrassing secret. The exaggeratedly Jewish local innkeeper Shagal (played brilliantly by Alfie Bass) does his best to feign ignorance, as nearly all of the villagers clam up tight, but the game is afoot. Add to the recipe the beautiful innkeeper's daughter (the simply lovely Sharon Tate) with whom Alfred falls instantly in love, and the scene is set for a wonderful tale of good over evil in the twilight world of the un-dead. There are many subtle jokes along the way, as well as some very obvious slapstick, but the lair of the vampires is truly menacing and with a haunting score to emphasise the plot, this film simply works on many levels. |

The US Theatrical Version was significantly shortened. From IMDb:
This film was originally released in the United States in an edited version shortened by approximately 20 minutes. All actors voices redubbed to make them more American-sounding, the music was slightly altered and a cartoon prologue featuring Abronsius & Alfred was added. This was done by producer Martin Ransohoff without Roman Polanski's approval. Other edits included the shortening of the trip to Krolock's castle, the shots of Shagal watching the maid cleaning the floor as he stomps the sauerkraut, and Alfred searching for the mysterious voice in the castle corridors. Upon seeing this American version, Polanski tried to have his name removed from the credits. |

1970 US drama by Jerry Gross
The BBFC cut the 1971 cinema release. The original running time was 82:55s The uncut region 1 DVD is available at US Amazon See review from IMDb : Eurotrash On the surface, this looks like one of those erotic 60s art-house flicks which were imported by American entrepreneurs solely for their sex content. It even possesses the de rigueur subtext exposing the moneyed class for its decadence and its exploitation of the naive masses. However, it's all a scam -- it was intentionally made in Puerto Rico by these self-same American entrepreneurs to resemble a European flick -- and quite successfully so. The film is well enough constructed and filmed to be watchable, with plenty of nudity, though it's overly melodramatic and dully predictable for long stretches. As well, there are a couple of psychedelic sequences for Swinging Sixties buffs. The star Angelique is quite a dish and is not averse to shedding her threads at the least provocation. At the same time, the filmmakers strive to offend conservative viewers (in true pseudo-Euro style) by including a lascivious hypocritical priest among the sordid proceedings, by using a soda bottle as an erotic device, and by being a bit unsubtle about Angelique's relationship with her housecat. |

Review from US Amazon : Little Gem I saw this in the theaters when it first came out in the 80s, not expecting much, but then - BAM! - this nasty little gem of a thriller delivers thrills in spades. JOHN GLOVER creates one of the most chilling, yet hilarious, villains in film history - and the film's most infamous sequence - the videotape replay of Cindy's snuff-movie murder that Glover forces Scheider to watch in horror SITTING THE SAME CHAIR WHERE SHE WAS KILLED! - still never fails to disturb the viewer. Frankenheimer directs how the best do: so seamless and subtle and unobtrusive, you never notice him tightening the screws right up until a white-knuckle climax. C'mon, guys, get with it! See review from IMDb : Underrated and unnoticed This film tends to touch base on issues in several other of his films. In Vixen , the issue was marital bliss and touched on the concept of partner swapping. A similar notion is touched on in Finders Keepers in marital fidelity, and promoting the concept that no one goes unpunished. It contains the nudity and light humor of his other flicks. It's not one of his more known films, but is worth checking out even if only once. The movie actually has a good plot to it, with senses of drama and a sense of urgency that keeps the pace going from start to finish. |

Review from US Amazon : Typical B action movie Firepower is one of those cheesy martial art movies that tries to take place in the future and the result is even more cheesiness that is just a 1980's looking future. But not all is lost. There are plenty of fights in this film, and it stars familiar faces Chad Mcqueen and Gary Daniels. Overall, the story is ok. There is a huge surprise near the end I did not expect from a film like this. The fights are really the only decent thing about Firepower . If you are into underground cage fighting with weapons and screaming spectators, this is that kind of movie. None of the fights are exceptional, but most are good and solid for a martial arts film. Gary Daniels is definitely more skilled in Firepower than Chad Mcqueen. A basic martial arts film that is a typical B action movie. The setting in the future makes it suffer more than it should with all its cheesiness glory, but other than that expect an average film. |

The BBFC found this confrontation too violent for the target audience and extensively re-edited the scene with the following justification: First Kid had to be cut to reduce the sense of threat as the hero was subjected to a psychotic gun attack in a shopping mall. The terrorisation of a child character in a conventially safe environment was felt to be a violation of trust, as was the unexpected onset of violence so close to the end of the film. | |
