See trailer from youtube.com Summary Review: Most controversial film of the decade An insane adult reworking of The Beauty and the Beast tale. This erotic fable was originally to be part of the Immoral Tales (1974) anthology, yet was put aside due to it's controversial subject matter then later transformed into this film. The financially unstable son, Mathurin (Pierre Benedtti), and very rich, and horny Lucy Broadhurst (Lisbeth Hummel) are soon to be arranged in marriage. The home is full of history relating to the families most famous ancestor, Romilda. Lucy immediately becomes fascinated with Romilda, and stumbles upon her diary. The tale is told of the day she was brutally attacked in the woods by a comical man / beast creature with a extra large penis. This scene is both shockingly powerful and hilariously funny all at once. Combining black humour, with graphic sexuality. |

The extensively pre-cut version banned by the BBFC was
passed X by London's council in 1978, the GLC. The film was also shown in
cinema clubs without a BBFC certificate. From article from sbbfc.co.uk: The film had previously been pre-cut to address James Ferman's concerns of:
The film opened at the Prince Charles cinema in September 1978. Following public complaints about the film, possibly provoked by some sensationalist press reporting, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) was asked to consider a prosecution of the film under the Obscene Publications Act. In the event, following consultation with legal advisers, the DPP concluded that there was no reasonable prospect of a conviction against the cut version of the film and no further action was taken. |

An extensively pre-cut version was banned by the BBFC for:
From article from sbbfc.co.uk: Distributor pre-cuts reduced the length of a masturbation scene and removed some of the more explicit shots from the dream sequence, in which the heroine imagines having intercourse with the beast. In spite of the reductions already made, the Board was sceptical about whether the film would be acceptable to the majority of local authorities, on whose behalf the BBFC classified films. Part of the problem was the film's sexual explicitness, even in the reduced version, which exceeded the standards currently accepted for the X category. However, a more serious problem was whether the central dream sequence might raise legal issues because of its suggestion of bestiality. James Ferman wrote to the distributor:
The film was further pre-cut to address James Ferman's concerns of:

Review from IMDb: Quite spectacular The film offers two wonderful swordswomen for the price of one. Shaw Bros.' top female martial arts star of the late 1960s, Cheng Pei Pei, stars as the title character, a famous veiled crusader who fights bad guys with her sword but has dropped out of sight when the film opens. Shih Szu plays an eager, whip-wielding aspiring swordswoman who seeks to track down Lady Hermit and become her student. The villains are a gang of evil Taoist monks, led by Lady Hermit's old adversary, Black Demon. Lady Hermit and her two followers engage the gang in a series of extremely lively sword battles which are spread throughout the entire film. There are several great set pieces, including a bit where the characters fight on one of those perilous rope bridges across a gorge and the bad guys cut the ropes and Shih Szu has to hang on to the dangling remains of the bridge and climb and fight her way to the top. The climactic battle in a towering pagoda is quite spectacular. |

108:55s | 2009 US horror by Dennis Iliadis The US Unrated Version (noted as an Extended Version in the UK) was passed 18 uncut for a 2009 Universal DVD. The BBFC explained their uncut 18 decision: The Last House on the Left is a modern remake of a 1972 horror feature about a gang of violent criminals who assault a teenage girl then unwittingly find themselves seeking refuge at her parents' home. The film was classified 18 for strong bloody violence and strong sexual violence. The film contains many scenes of strong bloody violence, many of which breach the BBFC Guidelines at 15 which state that violence may be strong but may not dwell on the infliction of pain or injury and that the strongest gory images are unlikely to be acceptable . In the assault on the teenage girls, which includes a graphic stabbing and shooting, and in the scenes where the parents get their revenge, there is extended focus on the actual process of the infliction of wounds and the resultant blood loss. These scenes include a bullet being shot through a woman's eye, a man's arm being caught in a waste disposal unit and a man's head exploding after being put in a microwave. The film also contains a mounting sense of sexual threat as the criminal gang take the two teenage girls into the wood; a threat which culminates with the rape of one of the girls. This extended scene went beyond the discreet and brief depiction of sexual assault that is allowed by the BBFC Guidelines at 15 . However, the focus on the girl's anguish and the lack of sexualised nudity or graphic sexual detail means that the scene did not eroticise or endorse sexual assault and therefore did not require intervention beyond the 18 category. There is also one use of very strong language and multiple uses of strong language in the film alongside some strong verbal sex references and scenes in which the teenage characters smoke cannabis. The uncut region 2 DVD is available at
UK Amazon Review from US Amazon: Polished Remake of Raw Classic
Wes Craven's The Last House on the Left was
released in 1972 and I heard from many people who were old enough to see it
when it first came out that it was the most shocking thing anyone had ever

Summary Review: Brutal Realist Tragedy While I think that people tend to get a bit hyperbolic when they talk about The Last House on the Left, I do think it's a fairly good film, especially given what the filmmakers were trying to do and considering their lack of experience, the era and the budget. Also, despite a filmic precursor, it just may be the earliest example of the horror subgenre of brutal, realist tragedy. However, it has flaws that would be difficult to overlook in a distanced assessment of the film. But again, focusing on that amounts to hype now, and shouldn't be taken too seriously, lest it lead to inflated expectations. Just as surprising on a first viewing is that The Last House on the Left has an intermittent goofy sense of humor and a groovy attitude that is firmly mired in the early 1970s. The two policemen are really comic relief characters (and very funny at that), but there is also a lot of humor surrounding the criminal quartet--this almost becomes a black comedy at times. These sensibilities even extend to the music, which has a frequent hillbilly edge and lyrics that supply ex-positional material. Surprisingly, Hess, who plays Krug, wrote the music. |

The BBFC commented: The Last House on the Left is not suitable for cinema exhibition because of the explicit and sadistic sexual violence contained in the film. This is the second time that The Last House on the Left has been refused classification by the BBFC. The present version is some four minutes longer than the version offered in 1974, but is still several minutes shorter than the original uncut version. Although the recent resubmission was of a cut version of the film, it was still found to contain elements which are unacceptable under the Board's published Guidelines. The Board asked for further cuts to remove images of the horrific stripping, rape and knife murder of two women. The option of making additional cuts was offered to the distributor in May 1999 and in September they confirmed that the film would be resubmitted with further cuts. After much delay it is now clear that the distributor has declined the option to proceed further. The Board is therefore unable to classify the film in this version. |

There is also a cut US R Rated version with 2 minutes of the anal sex scene being blocked by a lamp See case study from sbbfc.co.uk: Cuts waived due to artistic value It was rather ironic that after the failed obscenity prosecution, when the OPA was eventually applied to film in 1977, the BBFC's response was to waive its original 1973 cut and pass the film X uncut in 1978. According to the new Secretary of the BBFC, James Ferman, the application of the OPA to this film guaranteed that it must be considered as a whole and that a defence of artistic value was applicable. Therefore the film was not obscene in its complete version. The Board's decision to waive the cut provoked no comment. |

The submitted running time was noted as 128:58s = 123:48s PAL See case study from sbbfc.co.uk: Obscenity Prosecution The Festival of Light, a pro-censorship pressure group, started a concerted campaign to prevent the film reaching British cinema screens, circulating copies of the script to MPs and writing to local authorities - with considerable success, since several dozen banned it. However, it received favourable write ups from the film critics and played unopposed in most areas. Events took an unprecedented turn, however, when Edward Shackleton, a Salvation Army member, brought a private prosecution against the film's distributors for publishing obscene material. The case ultimately collapsed when it was found that the Obscene Publications Act (OPA) did not apply to film. |

2009 US thriller by F Gary Gray. See
IMDb The US Unrated Version/Director's Cut was passed 18 uncut for:
The US release is uncut and MPAA Unrated for:
The BBFC explained the 18 rating: Law Abiding Citizen is a thriller about a man who feels let down by the US justice system after his wife and daughter are murdered. The film has been classified at 18 for strong bloody violence, torture and sexual violence. The film contains several scenes of strong violence, with a bloody and protracted stabbing in one instance. BBFC Guidelines at 15 state that violence may not dwell on the infliction of pain and injury. At least one of the scenes was judged to go beyond the scope of the Guidelines at 15. Other scenes imply strong violence, including torture, but in most instances the strong detail is not seen on screen. The film includes one scene of sexual violence, with the attack implied rather than portrayed. Law Abiding Citizen contains a vigilante theme, with a man taking the concept of justice into his own hands and using violence against those who he judges to have failed him. This theme was also considered suitable only at 18. The BBFC Guidelines require caution with themes that appear to endorse illegal behaviour, such as violent revenge. In this instance there is some ambiguity as to how the vigilante is presented, with some dialogue references to the lack of wisdom of his choices, but this is counterbalanced with him being presented as a sympathetic character. The film also includes frequent use of strong language. See pictorial version details from movie-censorship.com

Note that other cuts were implemented at an early stage of editing. These scenes were never completed and the unprocessed rough cuts have become DVD extras. Summary Review: Unique and interesting The film itself is extremely well-acted, especially by the lead, Kate Hodge. It is however, not the most pleasant film you will ever see and if the filmmakers intended it to be a gruelling and punishing experience, they definitely succeeded. Despite these strong performances and excellent (and very gruesome) special make-up effects, the completed film is left damaged and confused in several key places. But, it is still one of the better entries in this particular series and is well-worth a look as a unique and interesting horror film. |

82:35s | 1986 Hong Kong film by Ronny Yu A very brief shot was cut from the dubbed VPD video release of this Brandon Lee H.K actioner.
The uncut region 1 DVD is available at
US Amazon Review from US Amazon: Brandon's sheer presence I watched Legacy of Rage after I saw Brandon's final film, The Crow, and I was literally blown away. Unlike most dubbed films, Brandon's sheer presence and force of character made the film very watchable--I never had a sense that I was missing a part of his performance (although of course I was) because of the intense physical acting of his character. The fight and shooting scenes are well balance with thoughtful character development. The final confrontation between Brandon and Michael is often compared to John Woo style Hollywood action epics, and rightly so...you will rewind it again and again to catch all the action! The initial fight scene between Brandon and the bully is a treat for Bruce Lee fans. Brandon does several Brucisms, like cracking his knuckles by clenching his fists, and such. This is the only time you will see Brandon emulate his father on film. If you are a Brandon fan, this is a must see...forget about Laser Mission and Showdown in Little Tokyo...this is Brandon as good as Rapid Fire, with distinct foreshadowings of The Crow. Get it. |

85:11s | The cinema version was cut as was
the video when submitted in 1988 When the expedition party is attacked by the thugs right after they set out on the travel, the last of the baddies is killed by a sort of death grip, apparantly punctuating his jugular vein. This is shown in both the uncut, the old US edit and the US trailer! In the UK version you merely see the guy drop to the ground. When the vampire lords later raid the village, the uncut version shows two girls being dragged out of their homes and stripped, showing their breasts. In the UK version we only see this happen to one of the girls very briefly. Incidently the abbreviated USA release version of this film, The Seven Brothers Meet Dracula, shows this whole sequence three times, once with the image reversed. As well as removing nearly 20mins of exposition, this version re-structures the film's narrative in order to cram a number of action scenes (some of which are shown two or three times) into the film as early as possible. In addition to the narrative deletions you mention, the opening credits sequence now unfolds against stills of scenes of the vampires which actually occur about 15 mins into the original film, the flashback structure of the old man avenging his daughters death by killing the 7th golden vampire has been removed and this is now simply an unexplained action sequence near the beginning of the film before Van Helsing appears rather than contained within his lecture, the sequence in which the high priest meets Dracula in Translyvania has been rendered incomprehensible by the deletion of over 50% of the footage (and occurs about 10-15mins into the film rather than being the first scene), and a lot of the dialogue in the scenes in the cave (where the good-guys rest for the night) is also missing. |

(Sound & Media) Same cuts apply to the 1993 cinema release, 1993 Tartan video & 2008 Sound & Media DVD Two cuts reported. Quoted from a posting by Michael Brooke: The BBFC's interpretation of the Child Protection Act, after a bit of uncertainty in the late 1970s, now seems pretty consistent. Nudity in itself isn't enough to justify cutting - there has to be actual sexual contact of some kind. I don't mean full intercourse or anything like that - one of the two cuts that 'Leolo' suffered was of a couple of obviously under-age children stroking a woman's breasts. 'Leolo' is an ideal case study concerning what is or isn't permissible - having seen both the uncut and cut versions, I'm amazed by what they left in! Bizarrely, shots of an obviously underage boy stuffing raw liver down the front of his trousers, lying face down on the floor and squelching up and down on top of it *doesn't* contravene the Protection of Children Act, but a far more innocent shot such as the one I described above does! The other cut is for cat molestation. The uncut region 1 DVD is available at
US Amazon Review from US Amazon: Poetic Genius Léolo is a rare work of pure poetic genius in film. It is a French-Canadian film that reminds me not only of the power of great cinema, but of the unlimited potential of the human imagination, and what it means to experience real love. Equally enchanting and depressing, Jean-Claude Lauzon's Léolo tells the story of Léo Lauzon (Maxime Collin), a 12-year-old Montreal boy who is more comfortable living in his wild imagination than in the reality of his dysfunctional life. (He provides the voice-over narration for the film, from the perspective of an old man.) During the film one wonders, is this endearing boy slipping into schizophrenia (as mental illness afflicts his family), or does he simply prefer a life of dreams to a life obsessed with bowel movements. In confronting themes of adolescent sexuality, mental illness, and physical and emotional abuse (all of which are a part of Léolo's life), the film contains several truly disturbing scenes (none of which seem gratuitous in the context of the film). One such scene involves the depiction of a tortured cat (sure to offend many viewers). (The scene is used to address parental concerns about their children's behaviour: which is worse, teenage smoking or acts of violence?) The soundtrack includes Tom Waits and the Rolling Stones. Not surprisingly, Time Magazine named this poignant, one-of-a-kind film one of the 100 best movies of all time. It is one of my 10 favorite films. It is a film that will haunt you. |

French/Spanish film by Christophe Ruggia The cinema version was cut when submitted in 2004 with the following BBFC justification: Cut required to scene in which young boy holds apparently erect penis. Les Diables, a critically well received French drama about a pair of juvenile runaways, was considered in relation to the terms of the Protection of Children Act. The film was a sensitive study of two children, one with learning disabilities, struggling on the margins of society. The film focused on their relationship, not just with the wider world, but also with each other. Several scenes suggested that the children were beginning to become sexually aware and sexually attracted to each other. The parts were played by a boy and a girl who were both under 16 at the time of filming and a few scenes involved a certain amount of nudity. The Board took legal advice about these scenes and also consulted a psychiatrist and a clinical psychologist about the psychological impact that taking part in the scenes may have had on the young persons involved. As a consequence, most of the scenes were allowed to pass but a cut was required to a scene which implied that the boy had become sexually aroused while splashing around in water with the girl. Although it was almost impossible to register at normal speed, on freeze frame it was possible to see that the boy’s penis was apparently erect. In order to comply with the Protection of Children Act, the potentially indecent images showing his arousal were removed. No DVD or video version has yet been certified Thanks to Daniel, May 2008: Nothing Explicit I remember the film because it was actually shown on BBC4 before it was shown theatrically in the UK, and the scene of the two underage actors splashing around in the bath prior to some apparently off screen sexual contact was intact. I remember at the time being startled by what the scene suggested, but I didn't see any sign of the explicit detail that prompted the BBFC to cut it. |

The cinema release of 1971 was extensively cut From cuts details on IMDb: MGM had acquired the United Kingdom release rights in the movie and were intent on releasing it in Britain as their major Christmas film for all the family. Unfortunately the BBFC would only grant the film an X certificate, barring all under sixteen years of age from seeing it. What MGM had perceived as a jolly action romp was deemed by the UK censors to be an excessively violent film suitable only for adults. In tandem with the censors MGM made extensive cuts, but still the censors would only grant an A certificate, meaning that children could only be admitted to see the film if accompanied by an adult. Virtually all of the graphic violence in the original film was excised and the British release of the movie was not a success. |

Przygodda spent a year working on it and this was the 116-minute version shown at the Cannes Film Festival. Wenders however, was disturbed by this version and found it depressing and obscure. He spent three months with Chris Sievernich re-editing the film. Aside from cutting more than 25 minutes, he added more footage of Susan as well as his narration of Ray's diary. This is the 91-minute definitive version of the movie. |

He seems to remember the castle from his childhood and eventually finds it with the aid of a strange woman dressed in white. It turns out that his family has been keeping the secret of vampirism from him. This stylish vampire epic is one of Rollin's best. We have the usual Rollin ingredients on hand, nocturnal settings, catacombs, coffins and semi nude vampires lurking the night. Unlike Franco who would delve further into the salacious aspects, Rollin tends to blend his lustful elements into his crafty settings giving the viewer a very unique contrast. This film is a must see for any eclectic Rollin fan. |

IMDb The Original Version was passed 18 uncut under the title Lisa and the Devil for:
The US release is uncut and MPAA Unrated, containing both versions of the film:
Review from US Amazon: Lisa and the Devil vs The House of Exorcism Lisa (Elke Sommer) is a foreigner in a tourist group. While admiring a fresco of the devil (which looks amazingly like Telly Savalas), she hears music and is drawn to it, abandoning the tourist group in the process. This leads her to a man (Telly Savalas) carrying a life-sized dummy. Lisa recognizes him as the devil from the painting and from this moment on the viewer is taken for a nightmarish journey that's hard to tell which is actually real or a hallucination. Not that the end result is a mess, far from it; it is remarkable how Bava holds such a non-linear plot together so well where other filmakers before and since failed and it's easy to see why this is Bava's favorite film. The cast ensemble is excellent and so is the direction. It's definitely one of his best. Unfortunately Leone couldn't find a distributor for this film. Seeing the success of The Exorcist, Leone had Bava reshoot some scenes that had Lisa posessed (spouting profanities, spewing pea soup, and so on). Bava balked at filming material he felt was blasphemous, so he walked and Leone finished filming the scenes, edited them into Lisa And The Devil, and called it The House Of Exorcism. The end result is really pathetic and an insult to Mario Bava's movie. |

UK Amazon Review from Amazon UK: Very euro-horror The Living Dead Girl is easily my favorite of the 7 Jean Rollin DVD's released thus far by Image and it's the only one in my permanent collection. If you like your euro-horror a little sexier, a lot gorier, and even quite humorous, you cannot go wrong here. From the opening scene with the grave robbers being disfigured by toxic vapors (hilariously fake) to later ultra-gory scenes as our tragic zombie-female-vamp dispatches one victim after another with her long sharp fingernails or devours their necks in extra-long munching scenes, this one delivers the goods! It has a very euro-horror feel to it and is not as esoteric and heady as some of the other Rollin films. Although French, it easily would appeal to fans of Italian horror as well...so if you're not a big Rollin fan, you may want to give this one a chance anyway. |

Review from UK Amazon: Psychedelic This film is normally grouped together with other Italian based films under the banner of Giallo. Which having now seen this film, does it a serious disservice. Many of the Giallo films feel like an excuse for naked writhing ladies, stalking killers, and psychedelic soundtracks. While not always a bad thing(!) the plot and acting tends to come way down in the pecking order. Not so with this film. Visually this movie is stunning. Lots of superbly thought out hallucination scenes show the main character's decent into possible madness with really quite jarring effect. Yes there's the naked beauties and 60's soundtrack, but neither of these feel like they've been shoehorned in for the sake of it. In fact the psychedelic party at the start of the film only adds to the uneasiness of everything. The script has more twists and turns than a basket full of snakes. You're left wondering what's going to happen right up to the very end of this film. Forget about movie genres and pigeon holes, this film is quite simply just a cracking ride from start to finish. |

Lolita: DVD Extras:
|
banned |
|
6:08s | Banned by the BBFC for:
The BBFC explained: After careful consideration the Board has determined that these two scenes, which are more explicit versions of scenes present in the feature version of Lolita, are not suitable for classification at any category. They are NOT present on the Region 1 DVD. The Comic Book and The Lake Point Cottages both contain strong depictions of sexual conduct between the adult Humbert Humbert and the 14 year old Lolita. In the case of the feature version of Lolita, the lack of specific sexual detail within the overall context of the film allowed the Board to classify Lolita in the adult category. In the case of these two works, however, we are presented with out-of-context sexualised images of an underaged girl. These scenes both contain images of sexual nudity and behaviour which were not present in the feature version and which are made even more problematic when presented in isolation or out of context as here. In The Comic Book, we see a brief shot of Lolita's bare breasts (not present in the feature version) as well as lingering close up shots of Lolita's legs, caressed by Humbert. The atmosphere of the scene is highly sexually charged. In The Lake Point Cottages, we once again have an extended version of a scene passed in the feature version of the film. As with The Comic Book, we are presented with shots of Lolita's breasts and torso and a brief shot of pubis as her knickers are pulled down. These shots were not present in the version of the film presented to the Board for classification and would not have been passed had they been included. Our main concern with these highly eroticised scenes is that they mightinvite feelings of arousal towards a child. We have a particular concern in the context of DVD extras where the scenes in question can be readily accessed and replayed at any speed. The obvious sexualisation of a 14 year old girl with the use of such provocative detail must raise concerns about the potential misuse of this material by those predisposed to seek illegal sexual encounters. There is, in the Board's view, a serious possibility of 'harm' being caused to some individuals, and potentially through their actions, to society more widely. The Board has therefore refused cetificates to these two works. |

95:22s | 1980 US western film by Walter Hill (Warner Home Video) The cinema version was uncut, The BBFC justified the cuts as follows: The Board removed sight of horses being deliberately tripped and forced into somersault. This does not appear to be the full story as there is not enough horse tripping to explain away 95s of cuts. Thanks to Mark BBC 1 recently showed its usual full uncut version. The 95 seconds of cuts on the BBFC database are nonsense. The only cuts made to the video/DVD are 4 seconds. This footage is of the forward somersault of a horse shot from under Robert Carradine. |

IMDb The Director's Cut was passed 18 uncut for:
The US release is uncut and MPAA Unrated for:
Review from US Amazon: Good amount of shocks Based on his short story The Last Illusion, Clive Barker helmed this adaptation entitled Lord of Illusions, and offers up a good amount of shocks, scares, gore, and a near excellent plot Scott Bakula stars as private detective Harry D'amour, and he gets involved with a bizarre case involving a magician (Kevin J. O'Connor) who years before had killed prophet and mentor Nix (played to perfection by Daniel Von Bargen). However, Nix has seemingly been resurrected, and he and his followers have plans on the destruction of the world. Just about everything about Lord of Illusions is great: the visual effects and Barker's direction and storytelling are great, but there are some plot holes and now and then some crummy acting (courtesy of the beautiful Famke Janssen), but for the most part Lord of Illusions is a great horror film from one of the great masters of horror. |

From article from users.tpg.com.au: At 154:53, the theatrical version on DVD is missing the shot where the lead Uruk-Kai Lurtz licks the bloody dagger blade after pulling it from his leg. On the 4-disc extended edition DVD, commentry track #1, Peter Jackson says: Scenes like the throat cutting and the arm being lopped off were obviously trimmed back really for ratings reasons. Someone else then says, no spurting allowed. In both versions, the arm lopping of the Lurtz is bloodless and the frame counts match exactly. |

Summary Review: Don't Take Seriously The violence and sexploitation are best taken as tongue-in-cheek. By enjoying the exploits of the two WAC officers, Maria Lease and Kathy Williams, the movie is quite entertaining. Both Lease and Williams could pass as Playboy Playmates. Both girls have no less than four scenes each were their wares are sampled - talk about copping a feel, these horny Nazis devour these two toothsome actresses! |

The BBFC commented: Love Camp 7 is an exploitation film set in a Nazi 'love camp' during the second World War. The film contains numerous scenes of women prisoners being abused, tortured and humiliated by their Nazi captors. Indeed the whole purpose of the work is to invite male viewers to relish the spectacle of naked women being humiliated for their titillation. Love Camp 7 contains both eroticised depictions of sexual violence and repeated association of sex with restraint, pain, and humiliation. These sequences were in clear contravention of the Board's strict policy on depictions of sexual violence, which prohibits scenes that eroticise or endorse sexual assault. The possibility of cuts was considered. However, because the sexual violence runs throughout the work cutting was not considered to be a viable option. |

The BBFC commented: The cuts were Compulsory. Distributor was required to cut indecent images of a child under the terms of the Protection of Children Act 1978, and images of sexualised torture. Resubmissions of old works highlighted the impact of the change in the definition of a child. Love Letters Of A Portuguese Nun featured sexualised nudity involving an actress who was under 18 at the time of filming. The BBFC judged some of the images to be indecent and cuts were therefore made. In summary:
Presumably the actress was over the age of consent though, so this video has fallen victim to the knee jerks of the UK parliament who perversely declared that legal acts are illegal to film. |

1973 release Sweden adult film Passed 18 uncut for:
The BBFC noted in the 2009 Annual Report: Collection 2, Swedish Erotica, a compilation of three early 1970s films from Sweden (Wide Open, Love Play and More About the Language of Love) was passed 18 without cuts. The work, which includes explicit images of sexual activity, is now very dated. By contemporary standards it is clearly not a sex work, but rather a genuine attempt to inform and educate, and the Board concluded that there was sufficient contextual justification to allow these scenes at 18. |

From on article [pdf] from palgrave.com: Not seeking to entertain Love Variations, one of the first British sex education films to show nudity in the UK, consisted entirely of alternating scenes of a family doctor showing diagrams of sex positions and illustrative tableaux of posed figures faking coition in increasingly unlikely and back-breaking postures. The producers, of course, stressed their good intentions to the censors. The press book for Love Variations stated, a little disingenuously:
The BBFC, indecisive about how to treat sex education films, accepted this but nevertheless at first rejected Love Variations on the splendidly perverse grounds that since the film was not entertaining it was unsuitable for cinemas, which were essentially places of entertainment. When finally released, Love Variations smashed house records at the Jacey Tatler cinema in London, |

UK Amazon See review from IMDb: Cult Following Just when the Hammer Christopher Lee Dracula franchise began to run out of steam in the late sixties, the company revved up its product by turning to Sheridan Le Fanu's Carmilla and filming several versions of the novel. The other most interesting one is Vampire Lovers, which keeps far closer to the plot of the book and has a more sustained sense of mood and atmosphere,. Lust is admittedly shaky in terms of script, and the ambiance is on again off again (but wow is it terrific when it's on). What makes this click with so many horror buffs, in particularly those who love lesbian vampire films, is the one-time star Yvette Stensgard, a gorgeous Scandanavian child-woman who looks absolutely innocent (particularly when her eyes fetchingly cross), even the moment before she rips open the neck of her next victim. Lots of nudity, with nothing but blood covering her nubile body. A genuine cult following has formed around this film because of Stensgard's devastating charisma, which would never be properly employed again, by Hammer or any other company. |
