Fascinated by forbidden rituals and

Shocking, brutal and repulsive, this film mixes bizarre authentic footage with incredibly exploitive (and often hilarious) "re-enactments" of his findings. Animal sacrifices, bizarre tribal ceremonies, mating rituals and even brain surgery.

a cannibal girl and tries to find his plane so he can go home.
If you're a cannibal junkie, this is one to devour. It's no "Cannibal Holocaust" and suffers from a somewhat simplistic script, but there's
enough grue and nudity to satisfy gorehounds and enough animal cruelty to enrage everyone else.
It ain't pretty, folks, but it is one of a kind. They don't make 'em like this anymore and even though Deodato
says he wants to now make "Cannibal Holocaust 2001" (too late ruggero!) - - don't hold your breath. This is a long-dead genre destined to stay that way. Bon appetit!

Dawn of the Dead is a 1978 US zombie horror by George A Romero. With David Emge, Ken Foree and Scott H. Reiniger.
A long history of BBFC cuts to Dawn of the Dead from 1978 - 1997. The cuts
were waived in 2003 but there are still multiple versions to add to the complexity. The film was once seized by UK authorities during the Video Nasty moral panic.
Summary Review: Consumerism and materialism
Although you will find this film under the Horror section of your video shop, I view Romero's zombie films as terrific action films. The rules are simple (don't get bit and shoot them in the head), the prey is stiff and slow
and the shopping mall setting is the ultimate playground.
However, where the film separates itself from every other action film and horror film out there is its clever subtext that reflects society at the time the film was
made. In 1978, consumerism and materialism had started to rear its ugly head. I think Total Film magazine said it best when it said that the ...survivors have everything they want in the shoppers paradise, but nothing they need, such as freedom and
liberty.

From sbbfc.co.uk:
The film was seen by six Examiners and the then Director of the BBFC, James Ferman.
The Examiners unanimously disliked the film, whilst at the same time acknowledged
that Romero had displayed some technical flair in creating pace and atmosphere. Much discussion was given over to the moral framework of the film – were the zombies sentient beings or unfeeling objects; was the violence mitigated by the fact that the
zombies are no longer human beings; was the audience being invited to indulge in the killings because the zombies ostensibly felt nothing?
One thing that all the Examiners and James Ferman agreed on was that the 125 minute
submitted version would have be cut before being released to the general public. Ferman stated that the film featured violence perpetrated against people which was to a degree never before passed by the Board and subsequently issued a cuts list
that amounted to approximately 55 separate cuts (2 minutes 17 seconds).
The following month a cut version of the film was re-submitted for re-examination and this time another team of Examiners viewed the film. All of the
Examiners still disliked the film and some were convinced that cutting was not the solution to alleviating the possible desensitising effect that the film might have on vulnerable audiences. Despite this view, the suggestion of further extensive cuts was
made and the film was once again seen by Ferman who subsequently issued a further 1 minute 29 seconds of cuts to more scenes of gory detail.
In September 1979 Ferman wrote to the distributor exclaiming that a tour de
force of virtuoso editing has transformed this potential reject from a disgusting and desensitising wallow in the ghoulish details of violence and horror to a strong, but more conventional action piece…The cutting is not only skilful, but creative, and I
think it has actually improved a number of the sequences by making the audience notice the emotions of the characters and the horror of the situation instead of being deadened by blood and gore .
Video Nasties
The film was seized by the police during the Video Nasties moral panic but was not prosecuted. The seizure was noted as a Section 3 seizure under the Obscene Prosecutions Act whereby the seizure is legally recorded but that is the end of

photographer and Vietnam veteran, named Kirk Smith, terrorizes Los Angeles by going around strangling lingerie-clad young women in their homes. He taunts Lindsay Gale, a young psychologist, by calling her on a radio call-in show to describe his sexual
hang-ups and misogynistic ways.
The movie's nasty and what there is of a plot is goofy. But Nicholas Worth scares the hell out of me every time I watch this. At once smug and terrified, forceful and helpless, his whimpering
panic-attack-tantrum gets right into my guts and makes me identify with this obscene morbid beefy creature.
The movie lets you learn just enough about the victims to experience their fear and pain with maximum possible sympathy
and intensity, and the sarcastic detective and other incidental characters get some hilarious lines.
Enter the Devil is a 1972 USA horror western by Frank Q Dobbs. Starring Joshua Bryant, Irene Kelly and David S Cass Sr.

Summary Notes
In a small college in North Carolina, only a select few students
are left to take mid terms. But, when a killer strikes, it could be everyone's final exam.
Final Exam was made at the peak of the early 80's slasher period and I'm not surprised that this one been forgotten. The intro is
truly typical stuff with a teen couple making out in a car only to be killed (but in a crap off screen murder). During the next 50 minutes! or so you'll be wondering if you're actually watching a slasher as nothing happens.

Uncut for 1974 cinema release and a 1982 VHS which was seized by the police during the video nasties moral panic. Cut for 1987 VHS but uncut in all home video releases since 1998. Uncut in the US
Summary Review: Blaxploitation classic
A voluptuous black woman takes a job as a high-class prostitute in order to get revenge on the mobsters who murdered her boyfriend.
Foxy Brown features a brilliant lead performance from
the hypnotically attractive Pam Grier, whose federal agent boyfriend is gunned down, and who sets out to fight for revenge and justice where the System has failed her and at the same time is matched at every turn by Antonio Huggy Bear Fargas as
her no-good younger brother.
The rest of the performances are variable, and the budgets of these things did tend to preclude brilliant method actors! Jack Hill's direction keeps things ticking over nicely and the screenplay swings
wildly between shock-horror tactics, tongue-in-cheek theatricality and even the occasional stab at gut-level farce.
Foxy Brown is a definite must-see. Definitely one of the best, and most enjoyable blaxploitation films I've seen
thus far.

Friday the 13th is a
1980 US slasher by Sean S Cunningham. With Betsy Palmer, Adrienne King and Jeannine Taylor.
Exists as an uncut Unrated version and a cut R rated version. The uncut version was passed X for UK 1980 cinema release and was initially released on pre-cert VHS. However this was seized by police and the distributors reverted to the
cut version from 1983 until 1987. The video has been uncut and 18 rated since 2003 on DVD and Blu-ray.
Summary Review: A Slasher Star is Born
Camp counselors are stalked and murdered by an unknown
assailant while trying to re-open a summer camp that was the site of a child's drowning.
Friday the 13th must be one of the biggest mysteries in cinema. Although it's a long way from being a good movie, its success and influence
is unnameable.
The make-up effects by the master Tom Savini himself are excellent, but that alone isn't really enough to create a legendary horror movie.
I'll never reckon the Friday the 13th films as good
- or even decent - efforts in the genre, but I'm always up for a little bit of brainless gore slashing. And that's what these series are made for...pure entertainment!!

After being forced to submit the film to the BBFC following the new law (Video Recordings Act 1984), Warner proudly announced that the film would be released uncut. Again, I remember seeing this
in the press and being relieved that one of my all-time favourite horror movies hadn't fallen victim to Ferman's whims.
Imagine my horror, then, when I finally got to see the BBFC approved version, only to discover it was the R
rated version. Warner had been technically correct to say the film was uncut, since this was the version seen by audiences in its home country, but it was still a deceitful, filthy lie perpetrated on the UK public. Only after Ferman left the BBFC in
1999/2000 and the film was resubmitted did we finally get the full version again on home video.
UK: The cut R Rated Version was released on pre-cert sell-thru video for:

Warner seemed to have decided to play it safe whilst the video nasties moral panic was kicking off. So they switched from releasing the uncut version to the cut US version
The film was cut by about 10s for the US R rating.
Annie has her throat cut. The 18 cert, version adds the white out before we get a good glimpse at the Tom Savini created FX.
Kevin Bacon's girlfriend gets an axe in the skull: Once again this cuts away to an early, imposed, whiteout. There
is about a second more of gory detail. (see below)
A birds eye view of Kevin Bacon with a spear exiting out of his throat has been censored (this is approx. 4 seconds long). The current version shows us a side view of his death then jumps before
we get the other angle.
The decapitation of Mrs. Voorhees has been cut of one sequence involving her headless torso. The cut is quite obtrusive and the sequence has been slightly re edited so that we cut back to Alice sooner than we should. The
sound jumps too, so it's not hard to notice this cut.
Friday the 13th Part 2 is a 1981 US slasher by Steve Miner. With Betsy Palmer, Amy Steel and John Furey.
Cut by 48s for an MPAA R rating. The same cut version has been used for all
UK and US release since. The 1983 UK VHS release was seized by the police during the video nasties moral panic.
Gore scenes that were cut have been located but only on VHS quality. These have been presented as a disk extra but have not been reinserted
into the film. So for the moment the cut Theatrical is still the best available version.
Mrs. Voorhees is dead, and Camp Crystal Lake is shut down, but a camp next to the infamous place is stalked by an unknown assailant. Is it Mrs. Voorhees' son Jason who didn't drown
in the lake some 30 years before?
While most sequels cash in on their original movie's fame, the second part of the Friday the 13th series lives up to its name.
The gore and the kill scenes surpass the
original. The characters are true teenage stereotypes. Much like the ending in the original, the ending here is great.

The decapitation from part 1 shown as a flashback has the decapitation once again trimmed for the blood-gushing from the cut throat.
Blood was cut from the death of Alice.
Crazy Ralph's death was briefly reduced from the wire-cut.
The scene where Jason hits a cop in the head with a hammer was cut to non-bloody.
Scott's throats-lit was toned down from the bloodflow.
Graphic close-up on Mark's machete-hit face is cut out.
The scene where Jason
impales the love-making couple with a spear was originally longer; it showed the spear actually being stabbed in the boy's back, while the girl screamed.
IMDb adds:
Originally, the sex scene between Sandra and Jeff was longer and included full frontal nudity from actress Marta Kober. But when Paramount studio discovered that she was only 16, the nudity was edited out and
the film destroyed (according to producers anyway).

All the girls look sweaty, stinky & dirty as they work, fight and make out with each other. That's about

Summary Review: Nicely Done
New York police are trying to find out who is behind a rash of 'handcuff' murders, while a young artist (and psychic) is finding herself
drawing the horrid crimes!
The opening sequences are quite grabbing, the murders are inventive (although not gory), and the plot builds to a great showdown climax.
Mastroianni's direction is sleekly well done, and
the subtle piano score is a nice touch. The film also carries a kind of sexual vibe through out.
The cast is quite good in their performances. Nicely done on all levels.

Summary Review: So bad, it's funny

This is one of the most disturbing (and not to mention unintentionally funny) films I've ever seen. The dubbing is atrocious, the violence
over-the-top, and the full frontal nudity extreme, there is a LOT of male frontal nudity in this film; so much so that I suspect that either the writer or director was...well, INTO male full frontal nudity.

Udo Kier is a witch hunter apprentice to Herbert Lom. He believes strongly in his mentor and the ways of the church but loses faith when he catches Lom
strangling Reggie Nalder to death for calling him impotent. Kier begins to see for himself that the witch trials are nothing but a scam of the church to rob people of their land, money, and other personal belongings of value and seduce beautiful big
breasted women.
This film contains very strong graphic torture including a women's tongue being ripped out of her head, nuns being raped (in the opening credits), and lots of beatings.
Back in its day, this
film was probably the most controversial movie ever made as it depicted the witch trials going on Europe during the darkest page of human existence.
The entire cast gives it their all and makes this film believable. The only
hindrance is the dubbing, but for foreign horror film fans like me, dubbing just adds to the charm.
I was pleasantly surprised and got a much better film than I was expecting. If you're a fan of atmospheric Euro horror, don't
believe all the bad hype as this film is a true gem.

The film was never an official video nasty but did manage a listing on the Manchester Police's local list of videos to seize.
Summary Notes
The Knight Templars return in this fourth installment of the Blind
Dead seris. On this outing, the Templars haunt a fishing village, where they rise seven nights every seven years to claim their sacrificial offerings in return for the safety of the townspeople.
Generally seems to have been found
the most disappointing of the series on grounds of poor acting and ludicrous plot elements. However the film does evoke a good creepy atmosphere.

Schoolgirls in Chains is a 1973 USA horror by Don Jones (as Don Jones). Starring Gary Kent and John Parker and Stafford Morgan.
The film was cut by about 30s in the US so as to obtain an MPAA R
rating. In the UK the film was seized by the authorities during the Video Nasties moral panic but did not trigger prosecutions under the Obscene Publications Act.
Summary Notes
Two
deranged brothers, who are under the domineering influence of their crazed mother, kidnap young girls and keep them captive in chains in their basement, where they subject them to depraved "games" that often end in torture and murder.
Girls in Chains is a descent cheesy exploitation movie from the early 70's, featuring some good acting, and even some humourous parts. There is nudity, but not as graphic as what are shown in the other trailers, and not as what is
suggested by the DVD cover.
Shogun Assassin is a 1980 Japan/US action film by Robert Houston. With Tomisaburo Wakayama, Kayo Matsuo and Minoru Oki.
Not an official video nasty. It was seized by police but was not
prosecuted and wasn't listed as a nasty.
Japanese executioner treks around with young son in tow looking for revenge on the men who killed his wife. Lots of stylish bloody sword play and blood spattering.
Summary
Review : A great film
A great samurai warrior served his Shogun honorably. The Shogun however grew paranoid and sought to destroy all those who might stand to oppose his rule. He sent his ninja
spies to the samurai's home. The ninjas failed to kill the samurai, but did kill his beloved wife. From then on, the samurai swore to seek out the Shogun and avenge the death of his love. The samurai roams the countryside with his toddler son taking on
mercenary work for money until the final battle with the Shogun's three Masters of Death.
Shogun Assassin is a great film. Much "controversy" has arisen over the years regarding this film having been cobbled
together from two other films in the Lone Wolf series. I think that what has been achieved is an extremely entertaining, fast-paced piece of action. By eliminating non-essential story lines and including a voice over narration, the action moves at break
neck speed. The amount of blood spilled is so over the top as to be cartoonish, which only adds to the uniqueness of the movie.
Shogun Assassin is actually an amalgam of two 1972 films titled Lone Wolf and Cub: Sword of Vengeance
and Lone Wolf and Cub: Baby Cart at the River Styx . The producer decided to join the best bits of these two films (using around 10 minutes of the first film as a pre-credits flashback sequence to introduce the characters).
Vipco released the video and it got caught up in the video nasties panic. Copies were seized and the distributors were prosecuted.
But the prosecution failed and the videos were returned. Shogun Assassin was never officially listed as a video nasty by the DPP.
The 1992 Vipco was pre-cut along the lines of the cinema version. No further BBFC cuts were required

The complete suicide scene can be found on YouTube. It's much more shocking than I remember and does kind of blunt the scene, mainly because you have no idea who she is or why she's doing it.
Rewatching the movie with this knowledge reveals just what a cruel scene it is. Still, It's kind of a brilliant film.

The video was seized subject to an Obscene Publications Act Section 3 Seizure Order. This is a legal gambit whereby victims admitted that the videos were 'obscene', and therefore
subject to seizure, in return for that being the end of the matter and so avoiding an obscenity trial with the possibility of jail time.
Suffer Little Children is a 1983 UK video horror by Alan Briggs. Starring Colin Chamberlain, Ginny Rose and Jon Hollanz.
The film was cut for an unofficial BBFC 18 rating issued prior to the implementation of the VRA. The film was seized by the police anyway and the film got caught up in the tabloid hysteria around the video nasty era. The film was
passed 18 uncut for UK DVD release in 2017.
The DVD version has a significant number of variations from the VHS. version.
Summary Notes
This amateur video production, (not particularly well regarded), is claimed to be a reconstruction of events involving child demonic possession which took place at 45 Kingston Road, New Malden, Surrey,
England in August 1984. None of these events were reported to the press though, not the to mention the fact that the film was conceived and shot in 1983, well before the supposed baseline event.
The video was submitted to the BBFC for a pre-VRA
unofficial rating in December 1984. The BBFC asked for about 2 minutes of cuts. However the distributors suffered a police raid on the day after the submission and the police seized the film. The police seemed to think that the uncut
version was illegal and would not give the distributors the opportunity to implement the cuts that would make it legal. The DPP considered the film for 3 months before deciding that no further action would be taken as long as the film was only
distributed in the BBFC approved version. The film was caught up in press frenzy at this time, with the inevitable calls for a ban and worse.

In his interview on the DVD release, director Alan Briggs claims that Films Galore rush released an unfinished, uncompleted version of the film onto the VHS market, but
if anything it's the DVD version that appears to be an earlier edit of Suffer Little Children. The VHS release correcting audio issues, continuity mistakes and implementing the cuts that the BBFC asked for. So, there really isn't a definite version of
the film out there. If you want to see the gore intacto you need the DVD release. If you want to hear what the actors are saying and see four scenes that never made it to DVD then be prepared to dig deep into your pockets for a copy of the 1980s VHS, in
order to complete the Suffer Little Children experience.

1985 Films Galore VHS
Thanks to the BBFC for details of this release:
The video was submitted to the BBFC for an unofficial video certificate in December 1984 (this was prior to the formal implementation of the Video Recordings Act which
occurred on 1 September 1985). The video was considered by a number of BBFC examiners and senior staff and a list of cuts required for classification at 18 was issued to the company in January 1985. After the cuts list was issued the film was seized by
the police from the distributor's premises and was subsequently forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for consideration as to whether any offences had been committed in relation to the proposed distribution of the film.
In April 1985 the DPP concluded that no further action would be taken provided the film was only distributed in a cut version that had been approved by the BBFC.
Later in April 1985 a cut version was seen by
the BBFC and this cut version was approved at 18 on 16 April 1985. However, the distributor was reminded that the certificate issued was unofficial and they would need to resubmit the film for a formal certificate under the terms of the Video Recordings
Act if they intended to continue distribution beyond 1 September 1985.
The film was never resubmitted and no formal certificate was ever issued under the Video Recordings Act meaning that the video became - in effect -
unclassified after September 1985. It has not been resubmitted to the BBFC since 1985.

Summary Notes
Writer/director James Glickenhaus made his feature debut
with this bizarre tale of government skullduggery, satanic killings, zodiacal mayhem and messianic horror. A scientist investigating reports of the Second Coming of Christ finds himself battling against a suicidal devil cult.

Werewolf Woman is a 1976 Italy horror by Rino Di Silvestro (as RD Silver). Starring Annik Borel, Howard Ross and Dagmar Lassander.
Cut by the BBFC for cinema and VHS. Uncut in Europe and the US
Summary Notes
From notorious Italian exploitation filmmaker Rino Di Silvestro (Deported Women of the SS Special Section) comes Werewolf Woman, a psychological, psychosexual, pseudo-shapeshiter shocker and a favorite
of director Quentin Tarantino. In it, a mentally unstable young woman named Daniela (Annik Borel) fantasizes that she is the reincarnation of her long-dead ancestor, a woman who was thought to have been a werewolf. Dealing with her lifetime of sexual
abuse, she seduces men before transgressing into a feral monster, screaming, cursing and ripping them to shreds. When she meets the man of her dreams, Daniela seems ready to forgive her past and bury the beast within until another traumatic encounter
seals both her own fate and the collective fates of the Werewolf Woman's wild wrath. A strange, erotic, outrageously sleazy and provocative Eurohorror classic about a woman pushed well-past the edge of sanity, Werewolf Woman is finally presented here
with the respect it deserves, in beautifully realized, remastered high-definition. Watch it with someone you trust.
Selected by Quentin Tarantino for the First Quentin Tarantino Film Fest in Austin, Texas, 1996. He loved it so
much that all subsequent Quentin Tarantino Film Fests had a surprise movie added to the end of each all-nighter known as the Wolf Woman selection, defined as an outrageous exploitation film sure to wake the audience up.
This wildly exploitive Italian gem features a luscious blonde lead experiencing lycanthropic spasms flagrante delicto, making a bloody mess of the men she naturally attracts until she finds true love in the arms of a gentle beefcake stuntman. Sleazy fun; even the bland expository scenes offer some hilariously inane dialogue.
Xtro is a 1982 UK alien film by Harry Bromley Davenport. With Philip Sayer, Bernice Stegers and Danny Brainin.
No censors cuts but exists in two versions, The theatrical version with a
happy end, the video version with a downbeat end. The film was seized by police during the video nasties moral panic but no action was taken against the film.
Summary Review: Much to enjoy
If you can overlook its obviously low budget and tolerate the BBC Radiophonic Workshop-like synthesizer on the soundtrack, there's much to enjoy in XTRO. It's a simple tale of a family man returning to Earth after three
years in the company of aliens whose customs and ways of life he hasn't completely surrendered.
Fans of the gross and outrageous will enjoy the sight of a fully-grown man being literally reborn and the several
messy killings that further spice up this warped and somewhat disturbing British shocker. Although clearly inspired by Ridley Scott's Alien, XTRO actually bears more than a passing resemblance to Norman J.Warren's notorious Inseminoid, except things are
much nastier here.

The pre-cert Spectrum video release was caught up in the video nasties scare as it was seized in Manchester, Birmingham & Newcastle. The BBFC pointed out that they had passed it uncut and the seized

Zombie Holocaust is a 1980 Italy horror by Marino Girolami (as Frank Martin). Starring Ian McCulloch, Alexandra Delli Colli and Sherry Buchanan.
Uncut by the BBFC since 2000 18 rated VHS. Previously self censored for pre-cert VHS during the video nasties panic. It was seized by the police but never became an official video nasty. There is a shortened US version named Dr Butcher
MD. The uncut version in the US is titled Zombi Holocaust. There is also an Extended Version.
Promotional Material
A macabre mix of the classic Italian cannibal and zombie cycles, ZOMBI HOLOCAUST
features Euro-exploitation stalwart Ian McCulloch (CONTAMINATION) as an academic who heads to a remote Caribbean island to research an intriguing murder-mystery. Once there, he and his team (which includes the beautiful Alessandra Delli Colli from THE
NEW YORK RIPPER) are shocked to discover that the tropical abode is home to a mad surgeon who is creating zombies out of the local flesh-feasting natives! Also known as DOCTOR BUTCHER MD, and heavily indebted to the work of Lucio Fulci and George Romero,
this superb bout of splatter carnage comes from the golden age of Italian gore.

From IMDb. The US version was re-edited and altered by distributor Aquarius Releasing Inc. and re-titled Doctor Butcher, M.D. . Among the changes:
A new, completely pointless and unrelated opening title sequence featuring a zombie rising from a grave, which is actually taken from an unfinished anthology Tales To Rip Your Heart Out.
The bulk of the original serious-sounding
musical score was overlapped with a cheesy and a wonderfully irritating synthesizer one.
Some dialogue and character development were deleted for pacing reasons.
Even though the Doctor Butcher version is cut, there is
an extra five minute sequence that takes place after Peter kills the sneaking zombie with an evanrude. In this scene, Peter and Lori are trying to get back to Obrero's hut. As they're walking, Lori falls into a trap, just missing a set of bamboo
stakes sticking upward. As Peter attempts to pull her out, he sees two cannibal tribesmen and tells Lori to stay where she is and he hides behind a nearby tree. As the two cannibals see Lori in the trap, Peter runs out and hits one cannibal in the back
of the head with a large stick, knocking him into the bamboo stakes. He then faces off with the remaining cannibal and beats him multiple times with the same large stick. He then finally gets Lori out and they continue to walk in search of Obrero.
