Review from US Amazon : Killer Video Game I seem to be in the minority, but I thought this movie was awesome. Maybe it's because I play a lot of computer games and I thought the premise of a killer video game was really clever (maybe not unique, but well done.) The plot revolves around a mysterious video game being tested by a couple of game testers. No one seems to know its origin, but it soon becomes apparent that when you play the game and your character dies, you soon meet the same fate in real life. The game is based on the real-life serial killer Elizabeth Bathory, a 16th century Hungarian countess who killed and tortured hundreds of girls. The movie takes some liberty with the facts, such as having The Countess, as she's called, move to America, where she finds the requisite spooky old manor to inhabit. I found the blending of game and reality very well-done and intriguing. I won't spoil the ending, but the heroes eventually find the body of the actual Countess, and guess what- she's not dead! (surprise) There is a pretty cool final scene where they battle this vicious vixen, who I thought was one of the coolest movie monsters I've seen in a while. |

See trailer from youtube.com Summary review: Rewarding film experience This movie is definitely one of Argento's best. As usual the movie features Argento's masterful camerawork and artistic set design. The movie also features enough scares to satisfy any horror fan. Where this movie truly shines, however, is in it's psychological aspects. It is unbearable at times to watch the tortures which Argento puts his daughter Asia through. If not for a few cheesy cgi effects this would be a perfect movie. |

UK: The cut Theatrical Version was passed 15 after further BBFC suggested cuts were implemented for:
The BBFC commented:
The BBFC explained the 15 rating further: The Stepfather is a psychological horror/thriller about a serial killer who finds his victims by marrying young divorced or widowed women with children. It has been passed 15 for strong psychological threat and menace and violence. The main protagonist in the film commits a number of murders in order to protect his anonymity and, while these murders do not contain strong detail, they are all strong in terms of the brutal and callous nature of the killings. There is also an unrelenting sense of threat and menace as the killer's new family start to suspect him and, consequently, place themselves in danger. The Guidelines at 12A only allow for moderate physical and psychological threat and these scenes are stronger and more disturbing and, consequently, most appropriately placed at 15 . Stronger and bloodier violence occurs at the film's climax and contain some focus upon injuries and blood which also secure the 15 classification. The US release |

As the UK/US edit stands; it leaves many gaping holes in its poor dialogue dubbing, missing the sense of Réage's story, and at times makes very little sense indeed. The BBFC provided the following justification for their cuts: The already reduced rape-murder scene in Strange Days was also found unacceptable on video, where the murder was further reduced to remove sexualised images of forcible breast exposure in a medium which could permit the repeated viewing of such scenes out of context. The scene was designed to convey the dangerous pleasures purveyed by 'snuff movies', but it seemed to the Board to have come perilously close to providing those same pleasures itself. (What a load of bollocks! its my favourite film of the year!) All the BBFC cuts apply to the rape and murder of Iris in the hotel room:

Summary Review: Well-Crafted A solid, well-crafted giallo that delivers the goods without achieving classic status. The characters are interesting without being in any way sympathetic. The men are manipulative predators and the women play dangerous games. In the last act, the sado-masochistic undercurrents make way for a series of plot twists. While these are not too predictable, the final solution is unremarkable. Sergio Martino stages some impressive set-piece. |

Jason Pai Piao plays a dapper hero who catches knives in his teeth and takes bites out of them. The imposing Thompson Kao Kang plays the lead villain, a dangerous fighter who wields his queue--or pigtail--as a weapon. The fights in this movie are downright visceral. BBFC secretary Stephen Murphy saw the film unofficially at rough cut stage and recommended cuts. The cut version became the final version and was not cut further by the BBFC. It is suspected that longer footage of the second rape scene exists only on the cutting-room floor. The BBFC issued the following statement when the video was unbanned in 2002:
When Straw Dogs was previously considered by the BBFC for video release in 1999, it was refused a classification certificate. This was because its distributor at the time declined to make the cuts requested
by the Board to the film's rape scene. The version on which the Board then based its judgement was a pre-cut American print of the film. |

After an inordinate delay for procrastination, the BBFC commented: The BBFC offered a list of cuts to the video's distributor but because their period of rights had elapsed, they were unable to consider making the requested cuts. After the politically correct empowerment of the BBFC on the back of the Video Recordings Act, the video version became verbatim. The grass roots examiners of the BBFC continually recommended a relaxation of the ban yet the politicians of the Board could never confirm their views. The cause of the problems for the BBFC is that the first rape scene has Susan George's character initially being forcibly assaulted but then she seemingly starts to enjoy it. This R rated cut has become notorious as it ended up making the first 'rape' scene look worse than it originally did. The uncut version makes it as clear as you can get without going hardcore that rear entry vaginal sex is involved, while the R rated version looks more like enforced sodomy! A coed, one of many students in the room, picks up. "We're sorry, the president will not be in today. The university is under new management." Set to anthemic songs of the time, The Strawberry Statement is both about and from the era of protests that swept campuses in the 1960s and '70s. Bruce Davison plays Simon, an athlete drawn to the excitement of a demonstration, to a girl (Kim Darby) he meets and ultimately, to the cause. The film ends with a police-and-National Guard raid on protesters that gave viewers of the day a knowing unease: student demonstrators had been shot – some fatally -- at Kent State University and Jackson State College in the month prior to the film's release. |

Summary Review: Lots of Fun When a liquor store owner finds a case of Viper in his cellar, he decides to sell it to the local hobos at one dollar a bottle, unaware of its true properties. The drinks causes its consumers to melt, very messily. Two homeless lads find themselves up against the effects of the toxic brew, as well as going head to head with Bronson a Vietnam vet with sociopathic tendencies, and the owner of the junkyard they live in. The ultra-low-budget exploitation flick Street Trash certainly lives up to its name in more ways than one. Not only is it rather trashy when it comes to generally poor or histrionic acting, bawdy humor, gore, and several lingering flashes of T&A, but it is also one of the few films set in New York City's skid row that was actually filmed almost entirely in authentic skid-row venues. Though Street Trash is blatantly and disgustingly lowbrow, it is nonetheless wildly entertaining and, from a technical standpoint, very well made. The make-up FX are skillfully and artistically executed, and never have latex appliances looked so simultaneously gross and hilarious. The action does lag in a few spots, but most of the time there is a constant flow of either gore, skin, or bawdy gags. Also, in contrast to many near-zero-budget exploitation films, the cinematography is fabulous, director Jim Muro shot the entire film using a rented steadicam, and he was so skilled at it that he went on to become one of Hollywood's greatest steadicam operators. The editing is near perfect, making Street Trash look like a more mainstream, bigger-budget film. For those who enjoy exploitation horror flicks from the 1970s and 1980s, Street Trash is definitely one of the best. |

Uncut for a 15 certificate when submitted in 2004 From imdb The Street Fighter's Last Revenge has only been available in America in a cut R-rated version. Cuts include a fight scene in which Terry rips out an opponent's heart using his bare hands. However, an uncut version was finally released on Region 2 DVD in England in January of 2005, featuring all of the violence cut from all non-Japanese prints of the film. Prior to this release, the only video version containing this cut was a first-release VHS in Japan. Despite this being the "X rated" cut in America, this version of the film was only given a "15" certificate in England. The uncut region 2 DVD is available at UK Amazon Review from US Amazon The third instalment in the Street Fighter trilogy has the best plot yet. A gang of mobsters wants a formula for synthetic heroin. The gang double crosses Terry (big mistake), murders his girlfriend (bigger mistake) and fails to kill him (biggest mistake). So as expected Terry goes after them and gets his revenge. The gang realizes too late it is bad for one's health to ... off Terry Tsurugi. I liked the action even though I had a pretty good idea what was going to happen after they killed his girlfriend. The action was cool and brutal. I recommend this as well as the first two, Street Fighter and Return of the Street Fighter, whether you are a fan of Bruce Lee or Sonny Chiba. |

Striking Back is a 1985 US horror thriller by Sean S Cunningham. With Shannon Presby, Lori Loughlin and James Spader.
US: Uncut and MPAA R Rated for:
Summary Review: Underrated gem A brother and sister arrive in a small town to help their relatives run an amusement park, and they find the town is terrorized by a local street gang. This very interesting but sadly underrated gem directed by Sean S. Cunningham ( Friday the 13th ) offers an original variation of both the revenge thriller and vigilante action movie, since it has ordinary common high school teenagers in the lead roles. Basically this means the film begins with harsh but fairly harmless bullying but yet ends with extreme violence and relentless murder. The New Kids is a competently made and occasionally very suspenseful thriller with tons of action, likable performances and an irresistibly charming 80's atmosphere. |

Summary Review: Lots of Nudity A young model dies of a heart attack during a back-alley abortion. After her death a mysterious series of bloody murders take place. Each of the victims are connected to the same studio that Evelyn worked at and each are viciously murdered by the knife wielding killer. Strip Nude for Your Killer is a sleazy and violent Italian giallo that will surely please fans of Italian cinema. There is lots of nudity provided by Edwige Fenech, Femi Benussi and Erna Schurer. The jazz score by Berto Pisano is pretty good and the plot is actually very gripping. The killings are quite gory and sadistic and the cinematography by Franco Delli Colli is excellent. |

Summary Review: Pretty Good When the razor blade slasher begins his reign of terror in the alleys behind the Los Angeles strip clubs, the most famous stripper in the spotlight must walk a tightrope between her own fragile sanity and the inescapable murderer's blade There are some real nice aspects to this film, which make the confusing editing and the sudden, mediocre ending to be real disappointments. There are a lot of topless scenes. This movie also features B-movie queen Debra Lamb doing a fire breathing act. Pretty good. |
