Ebola Syndrome is a 1996 Hong Kong crime horror by Herman Yau Starring Anthony Chau-Sang Wong, Yeung-Ming Wan and Fui-On Shing
Cut by Hong Kong censors when it was released and this is the version that was
widely distributed thereafter. A nearly uncut extended version was released in Austria but the film was finally released fully uncut on US Blu-ray in 2021. Likely it was this uncut version that was remarkably passed 18 uncut by the BBFC in 2022.
UK: Likely it was the Uncut Version that was passed 18 uncut with a BBFC trigger warning for sexual violence, strong bloody violence, gore, sex, racism:
Summary review: Sicko Gore A Chinese restaurant worker wanted for murder in Hong Kong contracts Ebola in South Africa, becomes immune to it, and unknowingly spreads the virus there, then comes back to Hong
Kong and continues to infect people with it. A kind of sicko gore film that will never be equalled in Western cinema. The whole film is as twisted as possible as we are shown acts of murder, masturbation, rape and cannibalism in
safe Hongkong style! There is no point in trying to review this as some kind of a serious film because this is pure trash and b-level horror/gore film.
Promotional Material After
killing his boss, wanted convict Ah Kai flees Hong Kong and winds up in South Africa. Once there, he attacks and rapes a woman infected by the Ebola virus. However, when he learns he is immune but can pass on the virus to others, he begins to spread the
disease to more and more people. Ebola Syndrome is a typically wild Category III exploitation horror, replete with ghastly overtones and heaps of bad taste. A must for lovers of Hong Kong cult cinema everywhere. |

1972 UK horror by Robert Young, cut by the BBFC in 1972, just released on UK Blu-ray.
|

|
| Thanks to Tim for an update to the film's cuts status.
|
Vampire Circus is a 1972 UK horror by Robert Young. With Adrienne Corri, Thorley Walters and Anthony Higgins.
Cut by the BBFC for 1972 cinema release and subsequent UK releases. The film was cut in the US for an MPAA PG rating but the best available version has been released MPAA Unrated. UK: The cut cinema version was
previously passed 15 for:
- 2022 Strawberry Media 50th Anniversary (RB) Blu-ray at UK Amazon #ad released on 21st November 2022
Cuts status This is the best available version with the material cut by the BBFC assumed to be lost. UK censor Stephen Murphy requested many cuts to the film in 1972 though Hammer succeeded in shortening his original demands.
The BBFC edits finally made were to:
- the whipping scene toned down
- a dagger in the face deleted from the opening scene
- the forest attack by the panther
- footage of the mutilated remains of the family.
Thanks to Tim: Some confusion exists because a list of proposed huge BBFC cuts list was in circulation. Wayne Kinsey's Elstree Studios book explained that this list was the examiners' first strike and most of these
proposed cuts, which removed whole scenes and probably added up to about 5m, were never made following an appeal to Stephen Murphy who had proposed less drastic cuts at an advanced screening before his more censorious examiners had seen the film. The
cuts generally aren't noticeable apart from the scene in which Lynn Frederick finds the dead bodies in the woods when a few shots have clearly been reduced or reduced to a flash.
Promotional Material
Out of the entire Hammer canon "Vampire Circus" has got to be one of the strangest things they ever did and it's coming to Blu-Ray for the first time in the UK to celebrate its 50th Anniversary!
It is an offbeat, highly surreal number with oodles of blood and gore thrown in. A Transylvanian village is sealed off from the outside world due to an outbreak of the plague. Anyone who tries to get in or out is shot dead by the
police. Nevertheless a travelling circus somehow breaks through the lines, and boy, are all its bloodless-looking performers a wee bit strange! There is a gypsy male who seems to be able to turn himself into a panther,
and a pair of very creepy acrobatic twins, who seem impervious to pain and can transform themselves into birds. All of it is presided over by Adrienne Corri, who makes a suitably vampy Ring-Mistress. Added to all this
the village itself is living under a curse imposed on them by an aristocrat they killed several years before for being a vampire, all of which is related in the violent and blood-splattered opening sequence to the film. A Creepy Hammer horror with bite!

Reservoir Dogs is a 1992 USA crime thriller by Quentin Tarantino. Starring Harvey Keitel and Tim Roth and Michael Madsen.
Never cut by censors but the film was briefly informally banned in the UK from 1993
until 1995 due to a controversy about video violence at the time. See BBFC Case Study from bbfc.co.uk See
Reservoir Dogs, and how it was 'banned' in the UK on video from filmstories.co.uk
Summary Notes Six criminals, who are strangers to each other, are hired by a crime boss, Joe Cabot, to carry out a diamond robbery. Right at the outset, they are given false names with the
intention that they won't get too close and will concentrate on the job instead. They are completely sure that the robbery is going to be a success. But, when the police show up right at the time and the site of the robbery, panic spreads amongst the
group members, and two of them are killed in the subsequent shootout, along with a few policemen and civilians. When the remaining people assemble at the premeditated rendezvous point (a warehouse), they begin to suspect that one of them is an undercover
cop. UK: Passed 18 uncut for strong bloody violence:

Promotional Material Quentin Tarantino came out of nowhere (i.e., a video store in Manhattan Beach, California) and turned Hollywood on its ear in 1992 with his explosive first feature, Reservoir Dogs. Like
Tarantino's mainstream breakthrough Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs has an unconventional structure, cleverly shuffling back and forth in time to reveal details about the characters, experienced criminals who know next to nothing about each other. Joe
(Lawrence Tierney) has assembled them to pull off a simple heist, and has gruffly assigned them color-coded aliases (Mr. Orange, Mr. Pink, Mr. White) to conceal their identities from being known even to each other. But something has gone wrong, and the
plan has blown up in their faces. One by one, the surviving robbers find their way back to their prearranged warehouse hideout. There, they try to piece together the chronology of this bloody fiasco--and to identify the traitor among them who tipped off
the police. Pressure mounts, blood flows, accusations and bullets fly. In the combustible atmosphere these men are forced to confront life-and-death questions of trust, loyalty, professionalism, deception, and betrayal. As many critics have observed, it
is a movie about "honor among thieves" (just as Pulp Fiction is about redemption, and Jackie Brown is about survival). Along with everything else, the movie provides a showcase for a terrific ensemble of actors: Harvey Keitel, Tim Roth, Steve
Buscemi, Michael Madsen, Christopher Penn, and Tarantino himself, offering a fervent dissection of Madonna's "Like a Virgin" over breakfast. Reservoir Dogs is violent (though the violence is implied rather than explicit), clever, gabby,
harrowing, funny, suspenseful, and even--in the end--unexpectedly moving. (Don't forget that "Super Sounds of the Seventies" soundtrack, either.) |

Walking the Edge is a 1985 US action drama by Norbert Meisel Starring Nancy Kwan, Robert Forster and Joe Spinell
Cut by the BBFC for 18 rated VHS in 1986. Later uncut and 15 rated for 2023 Blu-ray
Summary Notes A Los Angeles taxi driver picks up a woman in his cab, not knowing that she's on a suicidal revenge mission. He manages to escape with her before getting killed, but
deranged gangsters are searching for them.
Versions
Promotional Material Cult movie icons Robert Forster (Medium Cool) and Joe Spinell (Maniac) star with Nancy Kwan (Flower Drum Song) in Norbert Meisel's gritty action drama Walking the Edge. Jason Walk
(Forster), a down on his luck cabbie and numbers runner, has a chance at redemption when he crosses paths with revenge-seeking Christine Holloway (Kwan). She's after the gang of violent criminals, led by Brusstar (Spinell), who her murdered her husband
and son. Jason unwittingly drives Christine to their lair and when she is unable to finish the job, a hellbent Brusstar and his goons hunt the pair with a vengeance. Jason Walk's cab prowls the seedier, grimier locales
of early '80s Los Angeles and picks up passengers--gamblers, prostitutes and addicts--who match this environment. As such, Walking the Edge is both a sleazy urban thriller and a valuable visual record of an L.A. that has long since been scrubbed clean
and redeveloped. And like Max Cherry in Jackie Brown, Jason Walk is the kind of everyman-turned hero that Forster excelled at playing throughout his career. With Edge, director Meisel (Mafia Girls) teamed with his wife
Kwan for the first time. Screenwriter Curt Allen's subsequent credits include Forster's cult favourite Hollywood Harry. Genre veteran Jay Chattaway (Maniac and Vigilante) provides the film with a driving and catchy score. The leads are supported by a
diverse cast that includes A Martinez (Powwow Highway), Luis Contreras (Repo Man), Aarika Wells (Sharky's Machine) and Frankie Hill (Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter). Walking the Edge has been restored in 4K from
its original camera negative and now makes it UK Blu-ray debut. SPECIAL FEATURES: New 4K restoration from its 35mm original camera negative "Scoring the Edge," a new

Cut by the BBFC for X rated 1973 cinema release. Later uncut on home video.
US: Uncut and MPAA Unrated for:
Promotional Material Religious orthodoxy, human desire and institutional corruption all rise to a mesmerizing boil in multi-genre Italian director Domenico Paolella's The Nun and the Devil/Le Monache di
Sant'Arcangelo (1973), a cinematic fever dream about power plays within - and brought to bear outwardly upon - a 16th-century Neopolitan nunnery. Inspired by authentic period records and a novella by Stendhal, the film casts Anne Heywood as a senior
sister scheming to become Mother Abbess, Ornella Muti as a defiant aristocrat sequestered into religious service, and policier star Luc Merenda as a righteous cleric investigating the convent's sexual and heretical improprieties. It stands out as one of
the more noteworthy cinematic successors of Ken Russell's notorious The Devils (1971). Package design by Jim Titus |

of obscenity. And while it was ultimately cleared in Federal Court, the film mysteriously disappeared shortly after its release. Now more than 50 years later, this landmark 'adults only' classic can be seen in a brand-new restoration, scanned in 4K

wedding.
With the help of her aunt, Ana continues with her plans and one day her expensive wedding dress is delivered. Ana puts on the dress and runs happily through the house to find her father. Entering his study she sees, reflected in a
mirror, her father hanging by a rope. He has killed himself.
Ana leaves the island for the mainland and gets a job playing with a jazz band. However, she is haunted by visions of her dead father calling to her from beyond the mirror, summoning

Promotional Material Shot outside Pittsburgh on a shoestring budget, by a band of filmmakers determined to make their mark, Night of the Living Dead , directed by horror master George A. Romero, is a great
story of independent cinema: a midnight hit turned box-office smash that became one of the most influential films of all time. A deceptively simple tale of a group of strangers trapped in a farmhouse who find themselves fending off a horde of recently
dead, flesh-eating ghouls, Romero's claustrophobic vision of a late-1960s America literally tearing itself apart rewrote the rules of the horror genre, combining gruesome gore with acute social commentary and quietly breaking ground by casting a Black
actor (Duane Jones) in its lead role. 4K UHD + BLU-RAY SPECIAL EDITION FEATURES 4K digital restoration, supervised by director George A. Romero, coscreenwriter John A. Russo, sound engineer Gary R. Streiner, and producer

Re a scene of sexual violence from 1973 exploitation film THE DIRTY DOLLS. In the clip, a kidnapped woman is sexually assaulted by two other women, with sexualised nudity and a focus on the attackers' pleasure.
BBFC Classification Guidelines state that intervention may be required at the adult category where material presents a credible harm risk to individuals or, through their behaviour, to society. This may include portrayals of rape or
other non-consensual sexually violent behaviour which make the violence look appealing; reinforce the suggestion that victims enjoy rape or other non-consensual sexually violent behaviour; or which invite viewer complicity in rape, other non-consensual
sexually violent behaviour or other harmful violent activities. The Board considered whether the THE DIRTY DOLLS was in breach of the guidelines, and ultimately concluded that the film's depiction of sexual violence was so lacking
in believability and credibility that it did not represent a genuine harm risk requiring compulsory cuts to the film. Accordingly, in line with the BBFC's guiding principle that adults should be able to choose their own entertainment provided the content
is not illegal or harmful, the Board agreed that THE DIRTY DOLLS could be classified 18 uncut.
